The Whistler Sliding Centre |
The Whistler Sliding Centre is a new facility being built
for the 2010 Winter Olympics, located on Blackcomb Mountain in the resort of
Whistler.
Located above Parking Lot 8 on Blackcomb Mountain, The Whistler Sliding Centre,
venue for the bobsled, luge and skeleton events for the 2010 Winter Olympic
Games, features a 1,450-metre concrete track, refrigeration facilities, access
road and spectator capacity of 11,650.
The Whistler Sliding Centre will be an excellent site to showcase sliding sports
to the public. Its location near several of the resort's world-class hotels,
restaurants and the Village of Whistler and will attract many tourists.

WomenLuge, skeleton and bobsleigh will run through the Games period in this
order respectively (lightest to heaviest sled) to maintain optimum sliding
conditions on the track.
The Whistler Sliding Centre has a 1450-metre track with a 175-metre vertical
drop, with 16 corners. Top speeds will average 130 km/hr, making this track one
of the most challenging in the world. The track is made of six-inch concrete
with a required precision of within 3mm.
This will be one of only four sliding centres in North America, and one of
fifteen in the world. |
