Hotel Review of the Whistler Village Inn & Suites

Feb 22, 2010
This Hotel was a decent value, close to the lifts, in the heart of the village-an all around great location.
We only had one night there but would stay there again if we get that way again
For the money we spent, it is a great hotel

Stayed here two nights in Jan 2010 with buddies. It was about $220 a night with the supplemental charge for our third person -- I think this is about the best value you'll find right in the village.

The location is excellent -- just 2-3 minute's walk to the gondola and right in the middle of the action. The outdoor jacuzzi and small pool were fine -- a nice rest after skiing and we didn't mind walking 20 feet in the cold to relax. We booked a small room with three single beds, but it was too small upon sight, and so upgraded to a loft. These are excellent rooms -- especially for families in which the parents can sleep up in the nice loft area, but still be in the same room as the kids on the Murphy bed or pull-out couch below.

The small kitchen was perfect. The parking is right on site, but an additional cost.

We had only two issues:

1. when we upgraded it was in part because our booked room had only two beds and we needed three; because of this, we were promised a discount on the upgrade. however, at check-out the discount was not reflected. fortunately, though a young guy gave the discount, a fairly senior person checked us out and was able to correct the error. we were very satisfied with her resolution
2. part of the package included a two-day lift ticket that came with 1 bonus ticket. there was poor communication around this as we received one physical ticket at check in. the holder of the ticket did not know it was valid for two-days' skiing; he also did not receive the bonus ticket from the hotel, but rather from "guest services" elsewhere in the village. so, on Day 2, he obtained his bonus ticket and lined up for the gondola. However, when we tried to board we were told that he held only a ticket-shaped coupon for a ticket. so, he had to redeem this again for a proper ticket (he was brought to the front of that line), delaying our day. In the process, he learned that he had thrown out his half-used, 2-day pass. All was made well by the village staff, who were great! however, it was frustrating to be promised three tickets and then received a mish-mash of redeemable options, etc.

I would not pay $220 a night for this hotel outside of Whistler Village and, say, Manhatten. However, when your alternatives are $400+, this is excellent value, especially given that we saved more than $100 a night by cooking dinner.

My husband and I have been coming up to Whistler for over 15 years now. Before and after children! We always seem to come back to the WVI & S. It's in the village, it's got parking, and a good size kitchen. Bring your own meals or shop at one of the three local grocery stores. There's great food there, too. With small kids sometimes dining out just doesn't work. The convenience of the loft bedrooms is good too. You can put the kids down and still have your own space in the front room below to relax for the evening.
There are two lodges to the hotel, actually, both in the same village square. There's a pool and outdoor hottub in the Keg Lodge and an indoor hot tub and exercise room in the Powder Lodge. So, you can work out, too.
It's just a really nice destination. Everything you need is there and that helps when all you want to do is relax and unwind. Whistler is a world renowned resort but it still manages to keep its small town atmosphere. The mountain air is something else, and the views are unimpeded and breathtaking. Whether you're a skier or not, there's so much to do and see up here. You won't go wrong choosing this hotel.

Just finished 5 day stay for skiing at the WVI in Whistler and highly recommend the place. Staff extremely helpful and polite; clean, well appointed rooms. There are two buildings, the Keg Lodge and the Powder Lodge (see photos). We were in the Powder. I prefer the Powder to the Keg asit is the more intimate and like having your own private condo as the WVI main desk is in the Keg Lodge. Also, the Powder's hot tub is huge (approx 15 ft x 8 ft x 3ft), indoor and the workout room is right next to it. The outdoor pool and outdoor hot tub is at the Keg Lodge, which also houses the popular Keg Restaurant, of the Keg chain of steakhouses. (Good restaurant, with a main floor bar/lounge that is a popular apres-ski and post-dinner gathering spot). But the best thing about the WVI is its central location, which is literally a snowball throw from the base lifts for both Blackcomb and Whistler mountains; less than a minute walk to Umberto's, the Trattatoria, the Dublin Inn, and less than a block from other good restaurants, a grocery store and ski rental shops. Starbucks and the movie theater are just behind the Keg Lodge as are the Main Promenade and outdoor Central Court of Whistler Village. By being one building removed from the promenade and entrances to the shops, however, it is quiet. The parking is underground. Suites have fireplaces (firelogs only), flat screens, DVD players but no fireplace in the hotel style rooms. Cooking facilities in the Suites are adequate (stove, refrig, microwave, dishwasher, etc), though the rooms could use a few more wine glasses and cooking utensils. You pay for Internet (wired or wireless), but the daily rate was about a third of what I pay at most hotels that charge a daily rate; hourly and week rate available. I looked at other facilities and this was the best value I saw hands down. Definitely where we will stay our next visit.

Just returned from our great trip to whistler. It was a family of four trip. The room was good size, however we were told we were getting a two bath, however there was only one. This problem was the fault of booking.com. The staff was nice and the issue was resovled without a problem. We would stay there anytime. Thanks for the great memories.

We chose this hotel for its good price and excellent location. We were right in the middle of all the action in Whistler. The room was clean and very cosy, but a little stuffy. Overall though it was great value.

We were in Whistler for the better part of a week in early October. If you want to be near the base of the two ski hills, the location is fantastic, it's in the heart of the village. We were disappointed with the room. The hotel is in dire need of some upgrading and refurbishment. The photos on the website must have been taken 20 years ago, when everything was brand new. Nothing that ruined our vacation but it was a disappointment. If we had paid the regular prime season rate it would have been extremely discouraging. The staff were always cordial and very helpful when we had questions about the village or asked for recommendations. In our opinion, it would have to be the location that one would be after in order to stay here.

We stayed in a standard room in Whistler Village Inn and Suites during a cold and rainy period in September. The rooms were warm and well insulated. Enjoyed having a full kitchen with m/wave, stove and fridge/freezer. There was a large sitting area with an LCD t.v. The only thing I didn't really take to was the double bed which folded down from the wall. I've never been a fan of fold down wall beds because the mattress is always cheap and average. No duvets provided, only 2 blankets. CAD$12 / night for car parking was extremely reasonable (up to $24 at other hotels in Whistler). We paid CAD$110 per night inclusive of taxes and car park which was reasonable.
