I don't travel frequently, and never having skied o/s Oz I looked at
numerous Whistler hotel and resort reviews. This was a trip I have
wanted to do since I began to ski 30 years ago - and it was my 50th
B'Day present...Travelling with my son and his long time school mate,
both 20 yo, we settled on Canada as they could buy a beer and then it
was a given that we'd ski Whistler because of long standing
reputation/terrain and the Yes Improvement Skier Programme. Taking
advice from Whistler Reservations was the smartest thing we could do
(thanks Linda Sambell) and we opted for the cost effective Blackcomb
Lodge (a Studio Loft). On requesting a qiuet room away from the nearby
nightclub, Linda arranged this and that's what we got! Perfect..... It
was quiet, comfortable, clean and so conveniently located 150m away from
the lifts, restaurants and the Amsterdam bar (good food, good service
and just love the Granville Winter Ale). For a great steak go to 21
Steps a touch more expensive than the average meal but very worth it.
Very happy. Blackcomb Lodge staff were very friendly and helpful with
directions and local info, especially if you smiled and waited patiently
and ask for assistance as opposed to demanding it, like some "pelican"
in front of us. Yee reap what yee sow!! The bathroom exhaust fan needed
repair and front desk were advised around mid-day one day and it was
repaired/replaced by cob the next. The complex was looking a little
tired but it met our expectations. The beds were a bit hard and pillows
too soft, but I'm always difficult to please here. Others I met on tour
stayed at more expensive hotels and got what they paid for. But I wasn't
prepared to pay those dollars and neither were the two 20yo, especially
when we just wanted a clean place to crash and have breakfast. We
prepared a meal or two at night and the facilities met our needs. The
only frustration was that the daily room service typically consisted of
bringing us new towels. But then when you saw the way the young ones
lived you'd just throw a grenade in there to clean it out. My loft area
was cleaned and the bed loosely made daily, that was the only
disappointing component. I could have advised front desk but wasn't too
fussed. The real disappointment were other guests especially in the
spa/pool area. Some feral kids were running amok and their father was
just blindly 'watching' them. Screaming & jumping, as if they'd just
been released from a cage. Basically whenever they were in this area
other guests stayed away - and they were there every afternoon. and Our
stay was for 18 nights. We would stay at the Blackcomb Lodge again -
after consultation with Whistler Reservations'

Blackcomb Lodge Perfect location for the shuttle bus drop off from the
airport. In Whistler village centre, next door to a pharmacy and
opposite a good supermarket. Restaurants and bars nearby. Local bye law
imposes a 10.00p.m. noise curfew so despite central location its fairly
quiet in the room from outside noise late at night. Room has everything
you need, enough storage space, and seating. Kitchen area is a little
cramped for making anything more than breakfast but I didnt go on
holiday to cook! Short stroll to ski lifts. Having visited I am glad we
did not stay in the Upper Whistler village which has less shops and bars
- we would have been strolling to the lower village daily to eat and
shop for groceries.

We attended a conference at the Whistler Fairmont (15 minute walk) and
stayed at the Blackcomb Lodge because of price. The kitchenettes are
really good for the value. However, you may want to check out what is
going on that weekend...it was the snowboard convention - lots of
parties and lots of entertainment. When the bars closed our friends
heard all the commotion - we did not - on a corner room. Would stay
there again (parking was the cheapest around Whistler)Hotel Review about Blackcomb Lodge Whistler

We were 6 in an apartment - but directly had to book another one -
because it was very very small for 6 people-. This made the cost much
higher than planned unfortunately. Better indication about the size and
open rooms must be informed of.
But luckily Ida in the reception was very nice and helpful. This was a
big plus.

Don't get room 211, it's a shoebox, nothing like the photo's you see on
line. the smallest room but the same cost as others. Filthy. hairs in
the bed, spaghetti sauce splashed everywhere from previous guests, dirty
carpet, dirty dishes, disgusting toaster. Great staff 'tho, David, props
to him, transferred us to Horstman Lodge because we hated it there so
much. It was great, room etc, except i made the mistake of accidentally
leaving my snowboard clothes in the room on departure and less than 24
hours later when calling to retrieve, they had mysteriously gone
missing....obviously in the housekeeping's closet at home. No trust
there, horrible. |
