Hotel Review of the
Alpenglow Lodge at Whistler

Booked through Platinum AMEX who sourced the booking through Ski.com.
* No hangers, asked for some, brought one, asked for more, got them in the
middle of the trip. Bit of a problem drying jackets w/o hangers.
* Arrived to exposed light socket ripped off and they solved the problem by
removing the fixture from the walls leaving a naked pattern of screw holes
(shabby)
* Front desk is absent, or a great snowboarder who converts oxygen to carbon
dioxide and knows nothing about the town of Whistler.
* Bed in bedroom has a walking space the size of the width of a pair of legs all
the way around with no bed side tables (scratched and scuffed)
* ECO friendly we suppose, no water output or pressure.
* Tub shower combo made a shrilling sound and required numerous adjustments
* One morning 6:30 a.m., the smoke detector just went off. Had to unplug
standing on a chair. Left unplugged the remainder of the trip. No, my children
don't smoke.
* We were on the 5th floor, and one of the elevator doors would not open on the
5th floor unless it was "hit", or "kicked" (absent management)
* Incomplete set of dishes when we arrived
* Marketed as free internet, then the internet asked us to pay for it
* Carpets were dirty
* "Shared" washer worked, but dryer(s) did not
* Service offered to charge us for an additional cleaning day just to get
replacement bath towels (although we could not wash anything due to broken
"shared" laundry
* Outdoor pool was closed the entire time and the hot tub was tiny for the
facility and generally filled with 4 or 5 men at all times.
* Four chair dining table, had only two and was jammed in an awkward location
making access to deck "effort"
* This property puts you on the #5 bus route which seems to have the most volume
of passengers and the greatest wait time at the end of a day on the slopes.
Liked — Near good local restaurants, grocery, and spirits stores
Disliked — Overall quaility and size, seemed very second - third rate. Night and
day from previous trips.Hotel Review of the

I came to ski; it served the purpose well enough. Center of town with only about
5 minute walk to the lifts. Comfortable bed, nice HD TV, amenities such as
weight room and pool. Kitchen not so useful, but plenty of good and casual
restaurants close by

I was looking for a room with at least two beds in it (one could be sofa bed
pullout), and the one I saw available was a Deluxe Studio Condo. The description
of the room said it either had (1) one queen sofa bed with a queen murphy bed,
or (2) one queen sofa bed with bunk beds. I was fine with either of these
setups, but when I checked in, the studio they put us in only had one queen bed.
The front desk person then said all of the studios only have one queen bed, and
that the website description was wrong. They ended up upgrading us to a one
bedroom (with two beds), after a long process of the front desk person calling
the manager at home, and then me having to negotiate with the manager the next
morning on why I shouldn't have to pay an upgrade fee. An additional complaint
is that the machine that codes the key cards broke, and we were not able to
leave the room after the front desk person let us in with the master key.
Overall though, aside from the rough checkin process, the positives are that the
one bedroom was clean and spacious, the location is great, and the front desk
person was very friendly and helpful.

Our room was next to the elevator, which made some horrible noise due to some
mechanical problem. Very small room, when the murphy bed was open you couldn't
walk past is, had to step over. Front desk closed most of the time, front door
access didn't work most of the time.

Large HD flat screen in room; very comfortable bed with down beddings; decent
cost. Kitchen right next to bed; charged extra for internet. I came to hike; it
served the purpose well enough. Center of town with only about 5 minute walk to
the lifts. Comfortable bed, nice HD TV, amenities such as weight room and pool.
Kitchen not so useful, but plenty of good and casual restaurants close by.

I think we were lucky to get one of the best rooms at the Alpenglow Lodge as we had a separate bedroom,
balcony with a fantastic view & jetted tub but didn´t pay extra for this. It was
excellent value for money, the room was small but clean, fairly recently
refurbished & had a kitchenette complete with dishwasher, microwave, fridge &
cooker with oven. Alpenglow Lodge Facilities included a gym & outdoor heated swimming pool, coin
operated laundry room, & underground car park.
The Alpenglow Lodge was located near all the best restaurants / take aways, & was just two
minutes walk from a large supermarket & the shuttle bus to the slopes. It was
also within walking distance of Whistler village.
The only negatives were that the check in was at a separate location the other
side of town. House keeping is not included, you have to pay extra if you want
this service.
We had a great holiday - I definitely recommend this accommodation, it was much
better than expected for the money we paid.

For the price, and the location, this was a good value. The Alpenglow Lodge front desk service
was noticeably absent at times, and given that the location is in a high traffic
area there is understandably significant security but without a staffer there
this can be a little frustrating with the magnetic card reader to enter / exit
the property.
Traveller's tip on dining
For breakfast, if you want the absolutely best and most wonderful breakfast you
have had and want it served in style, go to Crepe Montagne right across the
street. Don’t let a short line deter you, the service is fast and friendly (it’s
not great for large groups-more than 4-people though, as it’s a small
French-style creperie). This was the best breakfast / brunch I’ve ever had with
the most wonderful (English-speaking French) service in Whistler.

Nowhere was it mentioned prior to booking that there is actually no staff at the
Alpenglow Lodge front desk. Upon arriving, we found a note telling us to go to another hotel to
check in. Arriving there, there was another note telling us to go to yet a third
hotel and check in. Being from out of town and not knowing the area, it was
quite a pain locating and traveling to all the different hotels. Upon checking
in I was told that I had to leave a $250 security deposit. This was also never
mentioned earlier. Once checked in, we were told that we would have to pay for
parking. So arriving at the parking garage, Iwe discovered the the keys we were
given did not work. So, back to the hotel we checked in at, and after a couple
of new keys, and back to the garage, we find out that parking is higher priced
than we were told by the hotel staff. So after that we arrive at the room to
find on the balcony an enormous amount of beer cans and Vodka bottles that were
never picked up from the previous occupants. Also, the room was listed as having
a queen bed, which it did, but failed to mention that it was a murphy bed that
was basically falling apart. We were very dissatisfied with this Alpenglow Lodge hotel.

The entry to the Alpenglow Lodge requires a card--hard to do when you are checking in.
There is no concierge, and we had to go to another location to check in. There
was no shuttle to the mountain, no amenities, no service. We couldn't get over
what was deemed a 'penthouse'. the place was tiny with no room for our stuff.
when you ski/snowboard, you have a lot of things. Also, the kitchenette was
really limited, including the fact that there was no dishwashing soap. We also
were surprised to find out that there is no housekeeping service, unless you are
staying 6 nights, and it would only be done after the 4th night. We thought we
found the deal of the town, however you get what you pay for.

Great place to stay in Whistler - no need to catch a bus to Blackcomb - just
walk it!
It's a little expensive - but worth it if you want a nice place to relax. Close
to restaurants too - check out the pubs at night for a good feed + beer :)
