Hotel Review of the Crystal Lodge Hotel Whistler

Stayed at the Crystal for 2 weeks on a skiing holiday. It was our 6th visit to
Whistler but our first visit to the Crystal Lodge. Generally a good experience,
reasonable value for money, clean and comfortable and certainly good staff. Only
1 issue, the lifts (of which there are too few) regularly broke down and stairs
are not an option through the hotel so long waits for the next available lift
could be quite frustrating. Other than that a hotel we would use again. Look
forward to our 2011 trip (had to go to Lake Louise for 2010 due to Olympics -
but not as good as Whistler!) The swimming pool area needs updating but the
restaurants within the hotel were very good quality.

Normally I go to Whistler and stay at a friend's cabin. In August 2009, I went
with two of my girlfriends and our plan was just to walk around the village and
enjoy the nightlife. Crystal Lodge was perfect for this. It is right in the
centre of all the clubs. The club I always recommend is Maxx Fish - it's always
a good time and it's the cleanest out of the clubs in Whistler. Tommy Africa's
is probably my second choice but I've heard good things about Savage Beagle.
Anyway, we mostly just stayed at Crystal just to sleep. We stayed two nights and
had no problems. Parking cost was about $40 for two nights, which we didn't mind
paying. We paid about $80 a person for 2 nights. We didn't mind this at all
either. It made going home after a tiring night of dancing very easy.
The room was clean and comfortable. I don't have high expectations but I thought
it was fine. Location is great as it is right in the middle of the village.
I definitely recommend this hotel if you're planning to go out and want a short
and easy trip back to your room.

The atmosphere of the hotel was very cozy and relaxing. The staff were friendly
and helpful. The room was not big but very comfortable and tidy. Everything was
very nice but it was quite a surprise that there were a few steps while heading
towards the room. It's not convenient if you carry heavy luggage.

Just a quick note about a long saga from the Crystal. The hotel was in poor
repair and our room was dated and the size of a toothpick. Door of the bathroom
got stuck and trapped my husband in there for an hour and a half. Maintenance
had gone home so we waited to have the door busted out. MId stay we were
upgraded as a means of compensation so had to carry all our luggage and gear
from one end to the other of the hotel. DId I mention we had a baby with us. Not
relaxing. I do not want to return to the Crystal. Wrote a note to the Management
team. Got a sarcastic reply! Come on! In service these days who has the guts to
come off arrogant in this economy?! Dont get me started about the underground
maze of parking and be prepared to run into people in the lobby by the spaghetti
factory in their bathrobes... it takes a few tries to find the pool. Any way if
you are desperate for a spot to lay your head go a head and book but for nothing
more that $70 a night! Great location - but that is all it has for it. The staff
and management don't care about your experience.

We stayed for four nights in room 120 and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a
great location. The room was ok - nothing fancy but it was perfectly ok. The bed
was big and comfortable. We asked for a quiet room and got a room overlooking
the heated pool. The only annoying thing was that there was no safe in the room
but we used a safe provided at reception. The room had a fridge though which was
a big plus. It wasn't a big fridge but it was enough to store a few drinks and
stuff for breakfast. It was a bit annoying the $10.45 charge for the internet
per day. We had 2 laptops and we tried to log onto the second laptop but the
code wouldn't work. After a while we realised that we had to call reception to
get a second code for the other laptop. There is no extra cost using the second
laptop. Overall our stay was good and the hotel was comfortable.

Sure, Crystal Lodge is not the most luxurious hotel in Whistler and most likely
you will not run into any celebrities. However, for majority for average people
that come to Whistler to ski it's great. We stayed in one of the newly renovated
deluxe rooms on the 2nd floor which was nicely appointed and very clean. The
room was on the courtyard side which didn't provide for the greatest view but
was definitely quiet. Staff was extremely helpfull and upon our arival they even
remembered to leave a card in our room wishing us happy anniversary.
But the major plus is definitely the location. Just as it says on the brochure -
"in the middle of it all". In the middle of the village just steps from both
Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas. We really loved being in the middle of the
"action". It had so much more energy that in the Blackcomb arae where Fairmont
and Four Seasons are located.

After reading all the reviews I was a little bit nervous, but eventually I'm
happy with my decision to stay in the Cristal Lodge. We were on the third floor,
overlooking the village stroll, heard no noise as some of the reviews said. The
ski equipment indeed is not allowed in the rooms, instead it stored in the
Carlton Lodge which is even closer to the lifts, so it's a plus. Standard room
had small refrigerator, which was enough for storing drinks and yogurts. There
is 10$ 24h charge for the internet in the rooms, and in the business center
there is only one computer, so it was a disappointment. Another disappointment
is shower, which had very small water flow. But overall I will definitely book
this hotel for the next ski vacation.

Crystal Lodge is in a perfect location, steps from restaurants, shops, and the
slopes. We booked a traditional room. The room was adequate, but small. The room
did not offer much space to spread out. The water temperature in the shower took
some time to warm. The shower needed re-grouting. In preparation for the
Olympics, I expected the room to be in top shape. The rooms were also not sound
proof. If you are a light sleeper, take ear plugs! We could hear our neighbours
each night. One night, we could actually hear our neighbour snoring! The street
noises also filtered in. The staff were excellent! We were always greeted warmly
and with a smile. All staff were very accommodating and helpful. We will
definitely consider staying at Crystal Lodge again, we will just upgrade to a
larger room! |
