Hotel Review of the
Cascade Lodge Whistler
18 October 2011
I came upon the Cascade Lodge via a LivingSocial deal, and frankly I
will keep my eyes peeled for it to come up again. We arrived on a
Thursday afternoon after a beautiful winding drive along the Sea to Sky.
No traffic of which to speak. 4 PM check in, and we breezed through the
process.
Heated, secured underground parking.
Our room was on the fourth floor, which provided adequate view of the
surrounding trees and a partial look into the pool area. We had the 1BR
apartment with a private entrance. Washer/dryer in the unit, full
kitchen with full size refrigerator, a spacious bath tub, Shaw cable
service, and a fireplace. [We loved the fireplace as it was already
getting down into the 20's at night!]
Among the first items of business was a trip to the pool/hot tub. Two
hot tubs, one heated pool, all were extremely clean, with hardly anyone
there [yay for Thursday arrivals!] Dry sauna available, average gym. It
was pretty darn nice to sit in the hot tub with jets and admire the
surrounding mountains; then it was even nicer when you didn't suffer
cardiac arrest for the transition into the pool as it was just perfect
temperature.
Later I took the short walk to the marketplace - liquor, drug, grocery.
There were other shops to hit later. Then we went into the Village
proper for dinner. Super quick walk, just had to adjust to the fact that
a lot of people seem to jaywalk! I feared for their lives! Anyway, the
next day we did the Lost Lake loop -- so beautiful, how can it be so
close?!
All in all we were met everywhere only by smiling, helpful staff. A
little light on amenities [no ice machine, few vending machines], but
like I said I'm definitely keeping my eye out for future deals here. In
season a complimentary ski shuttle is available.

Stayed in a one bed apartment, liked the full kitchen, good sized rooms.
The hot tubs were excellent also. Short walk to the lifts and centre of
the village.

This hotel is in a fabulous location, close to the IGA. We booked a 1
bedroom suite and it had a lovely view over the pool and at the Inukshuk.
The room was a bit old but it had everything we needed/wanted: Fridge,
sink, oven, microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher, flat screen, DVD
player, Cable, hide-a-way bed, kitchen table, fireplace bedroom w/ TV,
and full bathroom. Front desk staff were very nice and it was great to
have parking and free internet. The only downsides were minor but they
included that the water pressure for the kitchen sink was terrible, the
dryer was very noisy because they added an extra power vent, the bed was
a bit bouncy...although some might like this, and the roof over the
shower was about 3 inches above the shower head for some reason.
However, the water pressure was perfect.
I'd certainly stay here againHotel Review of the

We stayed here for 3 nights. We found it to be very clean.
It is situated in a good location. Everything is within walking
distance.
The heated outdoor pool and hot tubs were great. With an average gym.
There are washing machines on the 6th floor and iron and board in the
room.
During our stay here there was no room cleaning and towels are only
exchanged on request.
The (secure covered) car parking was $50 for the 3 nights which i found
expensive. There is public parking in the village for $12 per day
(unsecured not covered). In the end i chose the hotel parking.
All in all we had a good stay and would return to the Cascade Lodge.

Cascade Lodge Whistler

I've stayed in Whistler village twice. Both in summer. I get the feeling
that the mid-level hotels don't have to compete with each other much,
because what I experienced in both places was similar: no attention to
detail and indifferent staff. Cascade Lodge looked like it should have
been a 4-star hotel; the outside is impressive-looking and the pool area
is lovely. But the rooms (we were there on Worldmark points) were only
so-so and there was definitely signs of wear-and-tear in places. Luckily
it was clean! The bed was comfy enough but kind of bouncy. One of the
main issues was nothing the hotel has any control over: they are close
to the highway and thus any room with a window open will hear a certain
amount of traffic noise. Otherwise it's in a great location; one block
away from the middle of the village stroll. My kids and I wished the
pool would have been heated to at least a tolerable temperature - they
are polar bears but even in summer, this pool took some getting used to.
I couldn't use it at all. Another issue was the constant break-down of
elevators; I can't remember a time during our 7-night stay when both
elevators were working, which made for long waits each time going up and
down, with the hotel at full capacity. Since we are Worlmark owners, we
will return, but I do wish the property was just a little more "upscale"
on the inside to match what it looks like from the outside. |
