We stayed here for 4 nights during a holiday round British Columbia. The hotel
has a fantastic but quiet location right on the harbour, but needs quite some
work done to it and had clearly seen better days. The public areas were nicely
decorated but had all the activity of an old folks' home at times.
Our room was very spacious but lacked any kind of view due to it overlooking
another part of the complex. The décor was of a faux-British nature with some of
the flowery wallpaper peeling at the edges and there being several marks in the
carpet. The bathroom was clean and well-appointed with a good powerful shower.
Wireless internet was included in the rate, but unfortunately it was quite
temperamental.
One particular issue was the quality of the maid's work on the room. It was
apparent that the room had been made in a slap-dash fashion with the beds
looking rather untidy and the sheets not being taut. This led to my bed being
particularly uncomfortable on the following nights. The room was also quite hot
and it was difficult to cool it down as there was only a desk fan on top of the
wardrobe.
Being in such a beautiful place as Victoria, this hotel has great potential but
until I could be sure that things had been updated here, I would have to think
twice about returning to it.

We spent three nights at the Huntingdon having read several Trip Advisor reviews
in advance. We chose it because of it's location and price and, having stayed
there, felt it to be good value. One writer complained about the hard beds. Yes,
they were hard but we love hard beds. We had a room on the main floor - actually
up a short flight of stairs. It faced a lovely street that was tree-lined and
quiet giving one the feeling of being in an actual neighborhood rather than on a
crowded and noisy downtown street. Our room was quite large, had a small fridge
- perfect for breakfast items and medications that needs refrigeration. The room
was larger than most standard hotel rooms, had two double beds, a good sized
bathroom with shower and an operational fan that kept us comfortable There is no
A/C but we don't usually use A/C even if it's present - hate the sound. There is
a large color TV with cable. The front desk staff needs a little better training
on how to deal with the public remembering that they are serving us and their
jobs depend on that but we've encountered worse.

The location was perfect, the restaurants in the hotel and it's sister hotel
right next door across a beautiful garden and those in the neighborhood were
excellent. We had only a short walk to the Inner Harbor, the museum and
downtown. The ambiance on the streets was delightful.
The hotel is looking it's age and the housekeeping was a wee bit lacking but the
linens and towels, the bathroom and carpet were kept clean. No complaints there.
We live in Vancouver, have visited Victoria many times but had never really
explored as a tourist before. Our trip was delightful and we would return to the
Huntingdon.

The hotel is very clean and the has a restaurant on site. The bedrooms offer 2
double beds or 2 queen beds. Free wireless, but the gated undercover secured
parking cost $9 per day, but since you are so close to all the shops &
restaurants - it is worth the cost. The staff were very polite and helpful. We
only spent 1 day in Victoria since we are travelling to another city on the
island. Will certainly invite out of town visitors to this hotel.
The hotel is located a couple of blocks from the Legislative Building and
another block away is the museum. The seawalk is across from the Legislative
Building. You can go whale watching, take a mini ferry cruise of the harbour.
Good restaurants within walking distance. Take a ride in a horse drawn carriage
around the city or have Tea at the famous Empress Hotel which are all close to
this hotel and walking distance to China Town.

While a little dated we love the "Victorian-age" look. We were upgraded to a
suite and enjoyed kitchen with utensils. Walked to nearby Thrift Grocery. No
breakfast is provided but there is a restaurant. Everything in Victoria is more
expensive so our $278 booking for 3 nights (2 double beds) was great. We walk a
lot so it was the perfect launching spot for our explorations. Excellent service
from hotel staff -- although they ran out of regular coffee for rooms.
Apparently the hotel is in bankruptcy and on the market to be sold but we felt
no ill effects. Would definitely stay again... |
