Review of the Howard Johnson Hotel Victoria

“Okay with the price, location and facilities”
The location is just minutes from downtown. My kids love
the swimming pool. And I got use the spa after a long
drive and ferry ride. Overall, no complain with the
price paid.
Area recommendations
Victoria is not as picturesque as I have expected. We
spend 2 nights at Victoria which is one night too many.
If you plan your ferry rides (with car and international
crossing) carefully, spending one night is sufficient.

“Not bad for a 2 star hotel”
This hotel was nothing special but I didn't expect too
much from a 2 start hotel. The couch was lumpy, there
were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and it smelled a
little weird. The location wasn't too bad, about a 20
minute walk to downtown through a nice pathway and a 15
minute walk to a Save on Foods. There wasn't too much
noise from the bar and though we didn't use it, the pool
looked nice and clean.
Dining
The Blue Fox Cafe was fantastic for breakfast. There was
usually a line but well worth the wait!

“Victoria's average hotel”
Hotel overall was clean but very basic - I did get a
room with a kitchenette and it was perfect for the few
days I stayed. It was a little loud at night if people
came in late as the hotel is an old wood building. But I
would come back for sure as it was reasonable priced.
Area recommendations
This hotel was close to shopping - Mayfair Center and

“better for students, or lucrative trips, no leisure”
I was disappointed by the view I had from my room which
was towards a forest, most likely a valley covered by
vegetation very close to the hotel windows. It made room
dark, and unless you'd intentionally look for shade,
that's not what you'd want to see when you visit
Victoria. I would rather prefer a location with more
open view, ocean view or downtown view if possible. And
they don't talk about view in the room description. On
the other side was the parking lot. Otherwise had all
basics you'd expect from a hotel, was clean and the room
maid had tidied up during our stay. The cheap price you
pay is because the old furniture, but if you don't mind
that, it's OK.
Area recommendations Victoria downtown, the wharf, the
legislative building, the BC Royal museum, Emily Carr
museum etc, possibilities are endless...
