Review of the Royal Scot Suite Hotel Victoria

Wife and I stayed here just as stopover nights to and
from Tofino. For that purpose, the hotel suited us
perfectly. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were
clean, if a bit dated (as mentioned previously).
However, that pretty much puts it in perfect company in
Victoria anyhow. :) Suits the city.
Location couldn't be better. Quarter block to the
Legislature building, block to the harbour, 5 minutes
walk to The Empress and all the good restaurants in that
area.
Beds were comfy, which is the most important aspect
anyhow.
Would definitely stay again.

When my husband and I decided to spend his birthday
weekend across the Strait in Victoria, I booked us at
the Royal Scot. It was an excellent choice. At a block
from the inner harbour and the MV Coho dock, it can't be
more convenient. Being behind the bigger places on the
main drag alongside the harbour, the Royal Scot is
quieter and quainter. Because I'd mentioned my husband's
birthday they upgraded us to a suite for free, and what
a terrific room it was: large, clean, comfortable, lots
of TV channels. I have to agree that the bathrooms are a
bit dated and small, but that wasn't bad. The staff was
friendly and very helpful. They obviously often have
Coho walk-on passengers since they readily hold your
luggage for you until your room is ready so you can
wander Victoria, or hold it after you check-out but the
ferry isn't until later. The only complaint I have is
that they don't serve a free breakfast, which we've
grown accustomed to having at many hotels. But
considering the price, the location, and the friendly
staff, it was the perfect choice.

Only a block from the inner harbor , so you can't beat
the location. We stayed in a suite, which is like an
apartment. Would be excellent for a long stay. Decor is
quite dated, but very clean and well maintained.
Facilities are great- games room, pool, hot tub,
exercise room, etc. Restaurant was good food for a
reasonable price. Staff was excellent.

We stayed two nights in a spacious one bedroom suite (I
think it was one of the luxury ones). It was in a great
location - walking distance to just about everything we
would want to see by the bay. The bed was a little hard,
but overall it was a pleasant, clean room. It was plenty
big for my family (me, husband, toddler) and my parents.
The coffee in the room is not very pleasant, but they
had coffee in the lobby every morning that was a little
better. No continental breakfast unless you pay extra,
but we took a walk to a close grocery store and made our
own breakfast. The pool was nice - we were the only ones
when we went. Great place - will definitely go back.

I stayed in the Royal Scot before when I was a teenager,
before I knew anything about hotels or had anything to
compare it to. When I researched going to Victoria, it
was a very last minute trip so we wanted to stay
somewhere inexpensive but not without knowing the
cleanliness of the place first.
When I thought that staying on a Thursday night would be
inexpensive I was wrong ! There are two stars that are
asking for more money than the Royal Scot ! I was very
surprised. So I looked at the Royal Scot and was charged
119.00 for their basic room. I put in the notes the
request for a King Bed if available as my husband and I
are rather tall and like that luxury when staying in a
hotel.
When we got there, I was immediately relieved. Nothing
had really changed but it was super clean and the staff
were very friendly. When we went to check in, they
offered us a shuttle to take us within a ten block
radius, and pick us up. Ends at 10:30. I thought this
was great, even though my husband and I can walk
everywhere there are a lot of seniors that travel all
the time and cannot make that trek. Very nice it's
included upon availability so no taxi fares :)

When we got to our room, we were upgraded to a suite! We
definitely did not need it for an overnight stay but it
was very pleasant none the less. There was a little
galley kitchen with everything you'd need for a family
of four.. I'm sure that you could ask for more dishes
and things if you needed for more people. There was a
little round dining room table with four chairs, as well
as a spacious living room with a couch a chair coffee
table and flat screen tv. There was a huge deck off the
living room which was very nice to go out to on a pretty
sunny September day.
In our bedroom was a Queen bed and another flat screen
tv, a spacious closet and a huge window. The bathroom
was very nice as well. I don't understand why people
complain about how old this hotel is. I've been in newer
hotels and they haven't been as well taken care of as
this hotel. Sure it's a cream colored bathroom but you
can tell the grout's been re done or well taken care
of.. No discoloration anything. Not a speck of dirt and
the shower stall has nice Kohler Rain shower head.
Absolutely perfect amenities for what we needed.
Another thing, they don't have AC. Which I hate anyways,
But they do put fans in each room. If this is an
important feature to you, then check it out before you
check in ! Many hotels are older in Victoria -- Why ?
Because VICTORIA is old !!!!

All in all it's perfect walking distance to downtown and
all the touristy areas you'd like to see. The next day
upon check out I had asked the front desk clerk where my
Aunt and I could get a tattoo. She was visiting Victoria
from New Zealand and we wanted to get something done to
commemorate our visit together. The lady at the front
desk coincidentally knew many parlors in Victoria, and
some tattoo artists names! So I ended up going to
Pair'O'Dice in Market Square, and got my first ever
tattoo done by Mike the owner whom she recommended.
We did not use the other amenities in the hotel like the
pool area, or the restaurant area. Really just used this
hotel to sleep in. But I'd recommend it to anyone in a
heartbeat. Also - they have this great "care" care in
each room. If you dial a number if you forgot a razor,
shave cream, toothbrush.. They'll run one up to your
room. For free.
They also do charge ten dollars for parking. Since
everywhere is within walking distance this is super
cheap. Because you do have to pay for parking everywhere
in Victoria. They let us keep our car there the day we
checked out until 4pm. I thought that was very nice too.
