Hotel Review of the Fairmont Empress Hotel Victoria

From the quick and efficient check-in, to the room, business centre, and dining
areas, service was superb and gracious. We always stay at the Empress when we do
overnight trips to Victoria. What better way is there than for out-of-town
friends to experience what Victoria is supposed to represent when we take our
guests from Asia, the U.S., and Europe around Vancouver and surroundings. The
room was nicely done and very clean. Staff was accommodating and very helpful.
For just a bit more dollars, we experienced the concierge level of service at
its finest. The understated elegance of the interior and exterior steeped in
history, and the graciousness of the staff make this a fabulous Canadian
experience for all.
Room Tip: Try to get a room fronting the harbour for a fabulous view of
Parliament and water. I am not sure if rooms are air-conditioned, so be prepared
for that. Avoid peak season (late spring, summer, and early fall) so that you
get cheaper rooms, with concierge level service for just a bit more dollars.

This is a great hotel with amazing service. No standard service or rooms here.
The rooms are various shapes and sizes.
Take advantage of the luxury and the amazing amenities.
You get what you pay for but well worth it. As are all the Fairmont hotels.

I was there a week ago and the Empress was all decked out for Christmas! I felt
a bit under dressed for such a historic hotel, but the staff were friendly and
the place was quite impressive! When I opened the door to my room, I was
impressed! Coffee and tea, huge TV, and 2 very comfortable beds!
I would stay here again. The location was central and for me was walking
distance to work. The Parkade was a bit of a hassle though, closing at
midnight-6am.
Room Tip: I would not stay here if you need to be out past midnight with a car.
It was a pain to have to bother the front desk staff to let you out. Also access
to the parkade was a bit obscure, its a large historic building so that can't be
helped.

I have wanted to stay at the Empress since first seeing it at the age of 12 back
in the '60's on a trip with my parents to Vancouver Island. My husband & I took
this trip from Seattle to Victoria and found that to stay at the Fairmont
Empress was affordable. It is an elegant presence. Our room near the back of the
hotel was reasonably priced at under $150 a night in the off season (November).
It was a pleasant room although there was not a view. We spent most of our time
out walking and so the view wasn't important.
Room Tip: If you'd like a view of the inner harbor, you'll have to upgrade to a
Gold room. For our purposes the back side room was fine since we were out of the
hotel a great deal of the time.
