Reviews of the Hotel Grand Pacific Victoria

My spouse and I had an romantic weekend in downtown Victoria staying at this
hotel in the Victoria Suite (great Groupon deal) the hotel is nicely placed in
downtown allowing you to easily walk around exploring and dining. I would stay
here again in a heartbeat, the tv's and bar bridge were older but the rest of
the room seems to have been updated with cordless phones and a iPod/IPhone dock
beside the bed. The food was very good but the prices in the hotel restaurant
and bar were quite high (not sup rising in this caliber of hotel) a short walk
finds many nice places to eat at a much more reasonable rate.

I have stayed at the Grand, 5 times over the past two years. It is a centrally
located hotel in downtown Victoria that comfort and convenience. Parliament
buildings, Royal BC Museum, Convention centre are a short distance away as well
as shops and other services. You can go out of your hotel and within 15 minutes
find some excellent places to eat within walking distance. The hotel itself has
many amenities including a gym which is excellent. It is fully equipped with a
weight room, pool, squash court, aerobics room and the whole host of exercise
machines including treadmills, stairmasters, bikes and elliptical trainers. I
find that I have more of a desire to work out at the hotel than I sometimes to
in my own community! The hotel rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. I have
stayed in suites as well as standard rooms and all have been up to par. The
staff at the hotel are always welcoming and very professional. My only
complaints are the fact that they charge a substantial amount for parking each
day. Seriously if you don’t need a car while in Victoria, don’t take one. These
charges for parking are quite high. The other is that for a long-distance
collect call that I made the last time I was there the hotel charged $10.00 for
that short call. Despite explaining this to the staff that it was collect, there
appeared to be no recourse. This added to some bitter feelings during my last
stay. But overall I would say that the hotel is a good one.

We spent a couple of nights at the Hotel Grand Pacific during the US
Thanksgiving Holiday. We picked this hotel because of the indoor pool which is
very important to keeping our 12 and 9 year old occupied. The location of the
hotel couldn't be better - just across the street from the ferry, one block from
the Royal BC Museum, and a few minutes walk to downtown Victoria.
The indoor pool facility is great. They have a nice warm Olympic size swimming
pool, a kiddie pool for the toddlers, a hot tub, sauna, and a steam room and a
fully equipped gym right next to it.
The room was nice but nothing special. My experience in general is that Canadian
hotels seem to be a bit behind US hotels when it comes to decoration &
amenities. While most US hotels now offer a flat screen TV, this one does not.
No biggie but a bigger TV and a DVD player would be nice to have when traveling
with kids.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant and the food was very good. The
services was super friendly (as was anyone we interacted with a the hotel).
In summary, great location, good price, clean, and kid friendly. Highly
recommended.

The location is perfect for a stay in downtown Victoria but the staff really
sets this property apart. We booked a room with a very inexpensive rate and when
we were taken to it we found it was right next to the elevator. We asked if they
had a room that was not right next to the elevator shaft and were immediately
moved to a nicer room. Thirty minutes later there was a knock on the door, the
feather pillows that we had asked for (and were in the first room) were being
delivered to our new place. Talk about service, who would have remembered that
until it was bedtime?
This location is also dog friendly which made our daughter and her husband quite
happy. The property does set limits though: the dog was not allowed in the sauna
(this was a joke).
There is also a coffee shop in the "P1" level so you don't even have to go out
for that first cup in the morning.

Next door to the Parliament...Our king size bedroom was overlooking the harbour
and partial downtown. High quality bed linens and accommodations. Only problem
was due to the structure of the building ( an L shape) the rooms across can look
right into your room, on your bed, in many cases. We were all the way up on
7th...can't imagine being any lower. You also have no privacy on the
balcony......but it's still nice to have one! Staff is a little snooty. |
