All the recent glowing reviews are exactly right. We especially appreciated that
ALL of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Small hotel and good location
makes for very short walks. The rooms are clean and comfortable but starting to
show their age. The attached restaurant is not only convenient, it has great
food and is reasonably priced. Free breakfast is great. Valet parking is fast
and efficient. If you happen upon discounts and incentives you can stay in this
4 star hotel for a 3 star price. Otherwise you will pay more but you probably
won't regret it. We stayed 5 nights. It was a real pleasure!

I stayed in the Magnolia for my birthday last year. Having lived in this area
for 10 years, why didn't I know about it before? Mainly because it's tucked
away, very unobtrusive in the heart of the city I think. What a lovely, grand
hotel. The ambience is wonderful. The service impeccable. I think the only (not
so) negative thing I might say is that the breakfast wasn't all that exciting.
We had a lovely room with a fireplace overlooking the harbour. It was a
wonderful treat!

Forget the Empress, the Magnolia wins hands down! We just spent our second
Christmas Eve at the Magnolia Hotel and Spa. What a treat. This is a boutique
hotel .... small and intimate. Our family books two adjoining rooms which
connect to make a suite. Our suite had a great view of the parliament buildings
and harbour. The harbour, PBs, and downtown shopping are literally 2 mins walk
from the door. There are Aveda goodies and robes, and lovely comfortable beds,
with lots of pillows. The staff are efficient; friendly; helpful; and
approachable. Valet parking, or park on the street. There were touches like hot
chocolate (with Bernard Callebraut shavings to garnish) and cookies in the
lobby. I am European and have stayed in many luxury hotels worldwide. The
Magnolia remains a firm favourite. We are all already looking forward to next
Christmas Eve.

From the front desk assistance, to the room upgrade, the extra personal (house
cleaner) attention, and the morning complimentary breakfast....I can not SAY
ENOUGH. I will be back....this is why you have won awards for 2010.

Based on internet research and reviews, I was torn between booking the Empress
and the Magnolia for a recent three night stay. At first the off-season rates
seemed similar but the Magnolia offered a free continental breakfast (it was
great!), free wifi and we negotiated free parking. We loved the room, which they
upgraded to a room with a view. It was larger than the average room at the
Empress. It had a fireplace and separate tub, windows that open and a very comfy
king size bed. There were lots of little extras in the room and I enjoyed the
hot apple cider and fresh flower arrangements in the lobby. The service was
outstanding and included a nightly turn down with chocolates. It was the perfect
room for us - wish we could get the same room for the same price wherever we
travel to! We'll be back! |
