Hotel Review of the Fairmont Empress Hotel Victoria

The Empress is centrally located and the focal point in downtown Victoria.
Everything is within easy walking distance. We checked into our Deluxe King
room. It was large and had a ton of closet space and a thoughtful touch of
placing umbrellas in our closets. So handy!
This hotel was a fairy tale! I loved every minute of it.

This hotel definitely has various room sizes and shapes. Although we had a
partial harbour view, the room was on the small size, but beautifully decorated.
The hotel is in the process of starting major renovations, but assured us that
their customers will not be disturbed during the process.
Beautiful indoor pool area with access from 5AM to 1AM. Grounds are beautiful
for a stroll, and will be stunning once the weather gets warmer. Right in the
centre of the city, within walking distance of pubs, restaurants and shopping,
and the beautiful harbour.

My first stay at the Empress and was very impressed. Booked through a 3rd party
website and got a steal of a deal. I am also a Presidents club member and
although my initial request for a king size bed was not in the computer we were
upgraded to a deluxe room with king sized bed on the 6th floor. The immediate
view was of the loading dock, but if you looked past that we had a great view of
the city. Room was huge, clean and a very comfy bed, bath room a little small
and dated but clean and functional.
Had drinks in the Bengal lounge which was a treat, drinks are pricey, $15 for a
martini but you are paying for the ambiance. Some of the wait staff are a little
pretentious but on the whole they were very efficient and friendly.
Perfect location, good service, elegant hotel. Will definitely stay again

This is a classic old hotel with a TON of character. This was a great stay. Room
was large enough for me (not huge) but it truly had character, which is sorely
missing in modern hotels. Only there for 2 nights, and wish I had time to enjoy
it more (wish I could have enjoyed a proper 'Tea' service in their restaurant).
Great location in a very walk able town. Will definitely return here!

I stayed with my fiancé days after we had got engaged. I had phoned ahead to let
them know and the staff at the hotel went out of their way to help us celebrate.
We had a free upgrade and in-room champagne. I cannot speak highly enough for
this place- from the building itself to all of the staff. A wonderful place to
stay if you can afford it.

Plus: Very comfortable beds. Decent-sized room. Great location. Friendly,
attentive staff.
Minus: we blew a fuse twice when using the hairdryer and the water kettle at the
same time. Staff was very quick to respond - within minutes - but shouldn't the
circuits be able to handle this? Also, despite the hotel being almost empty, we
were given a room with an ugly view - probably because we negotiated a very low
price. Parking is an additional $30, but you can park for free between 6 p.m. -
9 a.m. on the streets.

The Empress is centrally located and the focal point in downtown Victoria.
Everything is within easy walking distance and if you have a car you are able to
use their "in and out" privileges if needed. The staff were are very courteous
and friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Our room was
one of the larger ones with two queen beds but the bathroom was very small and
cramped. We were travelling with another couple who had a room at the same rate
but it was larger, as was their bathroom. Their room was at the opposite end of
the hotel and because of the hotel's size and layout it took us 10 minutes to
walk from our room to theirs so I would suggest if you are travelling with
friends and want to be close to them make sure you request that at time of
booking. They do not have WIFI and it does cost to use their business centre.
The breakfast in the impressive Empress Room, although a little pricey, was more
than adequate and the service was superb.
The original part of the hotel was built in 1908 with more recent additions.
There are photos on the walls of various dignitaries who have visited here, as
well shots of the hotel throughout the years, which shows why it is truly one of
Canada's most historic and magnificent hotels.
