Stayed here a few years ago and it wasn't great, went back in December of 2011
for 8 nights. Great experience! The best, friendliest staff ever, rooms very
clean, spacious, good rates for the location, convenient walking distance to
everything. Pet friendly too. Will definitely go back.

Since we have relatives in town, my wife and I visit Victoria several times a
year. Most of the time, we stay at the Carlton Plaza downtown. The location is
unbeatable, especially with the free valet parking and its reasonable pricing.
The staff are always friendly and helpful. It is our "go to" hotel anytime we
are in town.

First of all our car was parked free of charge in a building nearby (if you need
something out of the car, just let the friendly staff know and 15 minutes later
you can pick it up at the front desk).
The hotel overall is clean and the location is pretty central (just a short walk
to all attractions downtown Victoria has to offer).
Our room was clean, but quite small and the bathroom was very small (two persons
at the same time - forget it). The view was not very pleasant: pretty dirty
windows (from the outside) and some ugly back alleys and rooftops.
A funny gimmick in the room was some kind of holding tray for your laptop, while
playing or working in bed.
We had room #511, which was next to the elevator (you could hear the elevator
noise through the wall, although it stops service between 11pm and 7am everyday
to ensure a good nights sleep).
During that time, we had to use another elevator at the end of the hallway were
no rooms were located nearby.
Otherwise the room had a nice flat tv, fridge and the bed was pretty
comfortable.

The hotel itself has not the usual amenities like pool and stuff but there is a
fitness center and they offer free bike rentals, but due to the central
location, there are a lot of other things to do, so we were only at the hotel at
night to catch some sleep.
Victoria is quite worth a visit. Lots of good restaurants, bars, friendly people
and many other attractions (for example Royal British Columbia museum - a must
see).
All in all I would definitely stay there again. The rate for a downtown hotel
was not bad at all and with all the free goodies it's well worth the money!
Would be five points for me if the rooms were a bit more spacious.

We stayed in a bigger room at this hotel as we had three adults in the room. It
was a nice size with a good layout. It had two double beds, a small kitchen with
a little living room area. I have stayed in a few hotels with this type of room,
living room area and kitchen. The nice thing about this layout is you could
still lay in the bed and watch TV along with the people on the couch while other
hotels make it more difficult to do this. Anyways, it was nice after a long day.
The beds in the room were not the greatest, a little on the hard side. The
location is great for downtown Victoria, everything within walking distance. The
staff was excellent and it is apparent they pride themselves in customer
service. Overall it was definitely good value for your dollar. |
