Women only hotel floors taking hold
|
How many hotels devote an entire floor to women? Not many, but add the Hampton
inn in downtown Albany, NY, to the growing list.
"The 165-room hotel on Chapel Street already attracts more female travelers than
men," says the Business Review of Albany.
General Manager Michael Gulotty believes the new concept will help the hotel
retain its customers at a time when the number of hotel rooms serving downtown
has doubled.
Women staying on the Hampton's third floor from Sunday to Thursday will receive
special amenities and services and pay a premium for the room, most likely $20
(male guests will only be allowed on the floor Fridays and Saturdays).
The amenities include a hospitality display on the floor featuring cookies,
flavored coffees, gourmet teas and magazines; stocking the 19 rooms with skin
moisturizers, hand creams and extra-soft socks; a private, half-hour session in
the hotel's massage chair, sauna and steam room; and an electronic key giving
women exclusive access to the floor.
Mr Gulotty ordered three years' worth of pink electronic keys embossed with the
American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" logo.
Is this a trend? Don't be surprised.
A 2004 report by the Travel Industry Association found 57% of business travelers
were men. It is believed the ratio used to be 60/40 male, said Cathy Keefe, a
spokeswoman for the trade association in Washington, DC. |
