A Woman’s Travel Guide: |
Helpful Hints for Men and Women in travelOne of the best rules
of thumb is to travel were there are lots of people, and downtown Vancouver is
full of people who live there, eat there, work there, and sleep there. I have
listed some of the nicer hotels downtown as far as location to being able to
leave the hotel and walk the area. If you are concerned simply ask the Hotel
staff. As I said Vancouver is safe, there is of course trouble around but you
often have to go looking for it. When staying downtown everything is about a
10-20 min walk away or a $5 dollar taxi ride door to door.
When it comes to travelling , safety and security are of primary concern for
women. Here are some essential tips to help ease the stress and make your hotel
stay more enjoyable and hassle-free.
Plan Ahead: Research your destination and remember to book hotel reservations
well in advance.
Trust Your Instincts: Make smart choices and use your common sense. Ask for your
room to be located close to an elevator and away from exits. Avoid booking a
ground-floor room or a room that has easy access from outside. Always keep your
room double locked and be sure to use the deadbolt.
Privacy Please: When travelling alone, simply keep a low profile. Use covered
luggage tags and include your office address instead of your home address.
It is common practise in a hotel not to give out personnel information but at
check in you should maybe just clarify this and to Inform the hotel not to
release your information to anyone. If you are expecting someone to call this is
important information to give them as well.
If there is a knock on your hotel room door call the front desk unless it is
something obvious that you are expecting.
Know Your Destination: Plan out your trip have directions ahead of time and do
not expose a map in your car with a marked destination.
Stay Connected: It's a good idea to email your upcoming travel itinerary to a
colleague, friend or relative so someone will always know your whereabouts. Be
sure to carry a cell phone when travelling alone, and of course sending an
e-mail from the road to keep people informed is a good idea.
Don't flash large amounts of money or jewellery. Wear your purse across your body
so it can't be easily grabbed off your body.
Use your head.
If you wouldn't do something at home, don't do it in a foreign place. You
wouldn't sleep with your door unlocked or walk down a dark alleyway at home, so
why risk it ?
"Consider where you are and who is around. Don't leave yourself isolated with a
stranger. Listen to your gut instinct."
traveling alone is safe and worthwhile? Without a doubt.
Of course, it's not a perfect world and you do have to look out for the
not-so-nice people. These are common sense tips for the male and female solo
traveler alike. |
