Holidays are around the corner |
Here are the essentials for making your vacation with kids a
memorable one for all the right reasons.
If you’re planning on coming to Vancouver from the USA and it is just you and
the kids, it is a good idea to bringing a signed and notarized letter from both
parents authorizing permission for the travel.
If your child has a medical condition, has allergies or takes medication, give
them their own identification card or necklace. It should include your name and
telephone number as well as your physician's, and the medical concerns.
Keep a recent photo of all your kids in your wallet. If you should ever lose
your child in a crowd, being able to show volunteers a picture will greatly
assist the search effort.
If you will be staying in a hotel, find out what the hotel can provide in the
way of baby care, such as a crib, stroller or change station. It's a good idea
to bring your own crib sheets and blankets, as most hotels don't have them on
hand.
Children under the age of 12 travelling in motor vehicles must be in their own
seatbelts, never sharing a seat with an adult. Newborn babies and infants should
be harnessed into a rear-facing infant restraint in the back seat.
Older children should use booster seats to make the lap belt sit over the hips
and not the abdomen. Never buckle two children into one seat belt as they can be
thrown together violently with the force of an impact.
Many airlines recommend or enforce the use of an approved child restraint device
for all children under 20 kilograms. Find out if the airline you're flying
offers them or if you have to purchase one.
Always seat your child away from an aisle. Children and babies reach out without
warning, and their little limbs can get bruised or broken by a passing person or
serving cart. |
