My first impression of this hotel upon entering the lobby is very classic and
elegant but that is just only the lobby area, the rooms are just the average
although clean but there is a smell of cigarette in a non-smoking room. I turned
down the first provincial suite provided to us because of that smell. can't
stand it as I am not a smoker and I have my daughter with me who is sensitive
with cigarette smell. so I asked for transfer. they gave us the next room but
still the same problem but lesser. I guess the smell is already attached to the
carpet so I turned on the fan but after an hour, there was a big loud noise
coming from the a/c duct. it seems like there was a cat and mouse running
around. I ignored that for a while but didn't expect that that will be my worst
night ever. because that loud sound is repeating every hour during our first
night and it kept me awake. I complained with the front desk and asked for the
transfer but she said the hotel is fully booked. I went around the provincial
suites and there was only us and a couple as guest within the area. so how come
she said it is fully booked. I was pissed off by I do not have any choice. I
just bought an ear plug and patiently stayed for 4 more nights but the 5th night
was another horrible one so I complained again and they gave me a room to
transfer only to find out that the room has the same problem. I am still staying
here patiently as this is the only hotel that is favorable to us in terms of
location, size and set-up because we need the kitchenette. the pool was not
updated but my kids loved the slide. the jacuzzi was too hot that you cannot
stay for even 10 minutes and you will be cooked alive. they have a dry spa
inside the locker's area but cannot be shared by couple as this is inside each
male/female locker's room. so you have to go to spa separately. did not use it
anyway. they have the kitchenette with utensils and plates but they don't
provide paper towels. so I have to buy my own. they do have the dish liquid soap
but no foam to wash your dishes, so I end up foaming with my hands. they have
restaurants around the hotel but they are the high end with way too pricey foods
so you have to walked 2 blocks down to tim hortons, A&W and Subway. Ihop and
Denny's are near for breakfast. the suite is not for business folks as they
don't have the working table. The room is actually good for family of 5 as they
have 1 king size bed, 1 single bed and 1 pull-out sofa bed. the size of bathroom
is not for family though. the toilet bowl is wrongly located as this is behind
the door. the edge of the door is almost touching the bowl when you open it. so
you do not room for your legs if the door is open. on our first night, I asked
for a wine opener and additional coffee creamer but no one came up to bring it
til I asked again the next morning. we ended up buying our own wine opener.
overall, nice room for family but A/C was the weird one.

The Sandman hotels are becoming standard in B.C. in most communities. This one
is more upscale than the usual Sandman ones. The rooms are updated, comfortable,
have additional amenities. The rooms, despite the freeway traffic outside, are
quiet. If you stay in the business wing, there is a business center, with a
sitting / continental breakfast area with t.v. and newspapers so you can get up
early and relax or work, if your partner is still sleeping. The restaurant is a
noisy, young hang-out for the most part. You won't be staying here without a car
for sure, as it is a freeway stop-off. Or if you are heading to the airport, it
is a convenient and attractive night-before-flight kind of place.

This is a very upscale facility for the Sandman chain. Great rooms with
balconies. 3 restaurants to choose from including Chop, Sharks Club, and
Denny's. Good hotel as long as you have a car and don't want to be somewhere
where you can walk to anything. the Steve Nash fitness center attached is miles
above your standard hotel fitness offering and the use is free for registered
guests. Big plus for the hotel and a main reason I will keep going back.

This hotel is not new, but very nicely updated. Clean, comfortable, very easy to
get to from the airport and has quick access to the freeway. The on-site
restaurant is very good with a great wine selection. Room service is prompt and
the food choices are adequate. The staff leaves you alone if that's what you
want, but is very attentive if you are used to more pampering. The rooms are
unexpectedly quiet for such a large hotel, close to the freeway and airport. I
would stay at this hotel again any time I am in the Vancouver area. |
