We booked our wedding night at the River Rock Casino Resort.
Before our stay I triple checked our room rate & reservation
just to be on the safe side & was quoted $370.00. I wanted to
make sure of this as we did have expenses from the wedding & I
wanted to make sure we had enough room on our Visa.
We got to the front desk to check in & was informed that our
credit card was declined. Declined? I had checked moments before
leaving for the hotel that we had the amount we required
available. It turned out that not only do they 'hold' the amount
for the room, they add an additional $100 for incidentals.
Something we had never encountered at any other hotel we had
stayed with - and we have stayed at many, many hotels.
In order to appease this $100 incidental cahrge I offered up the
$100 in cash. That wasn't good enough for them. If we wanted to
offer up cash to them for the incidental it would suddenly be
bumped to $500!!! That money was for us to use for our enjoyment
at the casino & to pay for our meals.
After much complaining on our part - as we had not been told of
this $100 incidental carge on any of our confirmation e-mails,
nor on the phone - they 'graciously' lowered the cash
requirement to $200 & we were permitted to check in.
Our room was lovely. The hotel supplied us with a bottle of
sparking wine to congratulate us on our wedding. We had a deep
soaker tub, a large plasma screen TV & a gorgeous bed that gave
me one of the best sleeps in my life.
We played at the casino & won a bit of $$ which made us happy.
We enjoyed a meal at the buffet & were pleased by it.
The rooms were well sound proofed - when we were outside of the
hotel we were deafened by the planes overhead arriving at the
local airport - we couldn't hear a peep of them from our room.
The next morning we received a slip under our door stating that
we had deposited $200 in cash to our bill & would owe an
additional $--- on departure. Considering that they had been
holding the $200 for us in case of any incidental charges & had
already charged our Visa for our hotel room we found this to be
out of line.
When we were checking out I had to remind the girl that the
charge was on our Visa & that we expected our $200 in cash back
ASAP.
All in all we had a good time but it wasn't due to the staff or
the hotel policies. We found the check in staff to be rude &
argumentative on an issue that was not our responsibility.

Stayed last night for the Donna Summer Show, great rooms, great
beds, deep soaker tub, won at the craps table. Great concert.
Ate at the smorgasbord (forgot the name) fabulous food,
excellent seafood selection, king crab legs, scallops, prawns,
all you can eat. Had a good breakfast at the Dockside Cafe.
Forgot my swimsuit but had a look at the pool and extensive
exercise room. Looked very nice.

It was a very nice hotel/resort. The beds and pillows were
amazing.
Food at the restaurants was average, but the atmosphere was very
nice.
The hotel was well maintained and clean (except the remote
controls)

River Rock is a relatively new complex that is very close to
Vancouver airport. We stayed in one of the executive rooms,
which was spacious and beautifully appointed. There are numerous
restaurants at this resort including a fine dining Italian,
where we had a great meal. The casino is very nice and has a
great atmostphere in the evenings. There is a free gym and nice
swimming pool as well. I would highly recommend staying here
over a standard airport hotel. |
