Guest Reviews of the Radisson President Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport Jul 25, 2008 Our entire family of 17 stayed at the Radisson July 2008 and the hotel overall was fine. All the rooms were newly remodeled in a modern decor. Housekeeping staff was very nice and friendly and cleaned up the room very well daily. The front desk associates were decent - not 'excellent' in customer service, but they tried. We never encountered any rude Radisson employees. Although the website says all rooms have microwaves and the hotel itself has laundry facilities - it does not. A column of rooms towards the West side of the hotel do not have refrigerators or microwaves. Plus, none of the rooms have microwaves. There are no general laundry facilities - only the hotel service which costs $2.35 to wash a pair of socks. However, there is a Laundromat about 1 mile away, called EZ KLEEN, where I drove to do my own laundry. Construction was still going on during out stay but it didn't bother us. It is actually the construction across the street that was noisy! Ask for a room facing the mountains which will place you away from the sky train, plus you'll have a fantastic view of the mountains. The fact that the hotel is right in the flight landing path was not a concern - the hotel is well insulated and you can't hear it. It was actually kind of cool to have the planes fly so close to our room - entertainment for us and the kids! The hotel is located in an area with large Asian population with many Asian markets and good Asian restaurants. There is also a large shopping mall right across the street from the hotel. It was very convenient to have the grocery store next to the hotel, because we had to purchase milk and snacks for my 2 & 5 year old kids. I would definitely stay here again. Guest Reviews of the Radisson President Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport Jul 2, 2008 I stayed in room 1102 and loved it. There was an adjustable king bed (20 different firmness settings) and LCD TV. The entire look of the modern, well-appointed room just worked. I suspect it was recently renovated and would thus explain the big difference between my review and the others. The renovations in the bathroom were less dramatic (the shower and toilet were definitely not changed), but it still had a bit of a new look and feel to it. Light sleepers might find the planes overhead a bit challenging as the Radisson is virtually directly below a flight path. Be forewarned: Richmond is a good 30-40 minutes from downtown Vancouver. A taxi will be pricey and a bus will take forever. But there's good news: a new SkyTrain line is being built and one of the stations will be across the street from the hotel. I think it will be completed by the Fall of 2009. Guest Reviews of the Radisson President Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport Jun 25, 2008 We got our room through Hotwire ($139 plus tax), so I didn't know what hotel it would be until after booking. After I found out and checked the reviews I was very concerned. I must say Hotwire was pretty responsive. They checked the reviews and expressed concern but said the hotel had been renovated so they thought the problems had been solved, and if not we could file a complaint afterwards. We had a good experience there. The location was a little odd, but that's not unusual for an airport hotel. I read that parking could be a problem, but there was an event going on so we got to park for free right out front. Renovation was still going on in the lobby, but our room was nice and quiet, and the front desk people were friendly and helpful. There is an interesting mall right across the street geared towards Asian customers, and we enjoyed browsing there and had a great meal at a Thai/Malaysian restaurant recommended by a guy at the front desk. I'm not sure all the problems have been solved, but I thought I should let people know we had a positive experience. Guest Reviews of the Radisson President Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport Jun 8, 2008 The issue of this hotel's location is well documented below but as I was only here for one night prior to a flight the next morning I was hoping for a good night's rest. To begin with, check-in proved to be a lengthy and confusing process for both members of staff at the front desk. When they finally gave me my key I went up to the (very clean) room to find a defective window allowing constant road and aircraft noise to become invasive. According to the front desk no other king rooms were available so I had to use earplugs to go to sleep and retired around midnight. Then the fire alarm, an excruciatingly loud electrical beeping noise, malfunctioned at 3.20am and all guests had to leave the building by the stairs. Once outside, confusion reigned and nobody from the hotel staff was checking anyone's names against the room list to confirm that the building was definitely empty. Quite unusual behavior for a hotel. After about 15 minutes the fire dept. arrived, confirmed it was an alarm malfunction and cleared the building for re-entry. The elevators remained out of service despite this false alarm (WHY?!!?) so I had to climb the stairs back up to the 11th floor. Once back in my room, heart pumping hard from 22 flights of stairs, the fire alarm sounded again twice briefly before being turned off. Its ear-piercing noise and the previous shock awakening ensured I was unable to get back to sleep for the rest of the night. The next morning I arrived exhausted at the front desk and asked the young lady behind it, the same one who had checked me in the previous evening, for an explanation why the alarm had sounded in the middle of the night. I complained that I had been unable to sleep thanks to its malfunction and the fact that I had to climb 11 floors' worth of stairs to get back to my room. She said she had no idea why the alarm had gone off but cheerfully added that "at least it's loud enough to wake you up, huh!". What a STUPID thing to say to a dissatisfied customer! OF COURSE IT'S LOUD ENOUGH, IT'S A FIRE ALARM!!!! I asked her to pass on my complaint to the management but she had already started checking another guest out and I was left feeling that my complaint was, in her opinion, unfounded. Radisson's 100% guest satisfaction guarantee is endorsed on the check out wallet with the words "If you are not satisfied with something, please let us know and we'll make it right or you won't pay". I tried accordingly to let the staff know that something was far from right but my complaint fell on deaf ears and I was still asked to pay for the night's stay. The unintelligent attitude I encountered at this hotel smacked more of a cheap fast food outlet than of the upmarket brand the Radisson purports to represent. The only reason I use hotels is to sleep and I sincerely hope I never have the misfortune to stay in this hotel or deal with its educationally subnormal desk staff ever again. Guest Reviews of the Radisson President Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport May 12, 2008 I'll start off with the one good thing. The room. Its newly renovated with an LCD tv and up-to-date furniture/decor. The bad: - hardly any ground level parking -- no one assisted me when I rolled up to the front entrance. Was told to park at the 5th level (which was full) only to call the front desk and have them rudely speak to me and tell me to park on another level. - the hotel was under construction the appearance in the main lobby was like walking into a trailer. Understandable it needed renovations but if I was aware of it upon booking I definitely would have stayed away. - when I arrived at my room there was an old plate from the night before with leftovers on it. I thought someone was in my room. - the location is atrocious. if you are just coming in for a conference or you love dim sum it might not be so bad. But its immediately next to a highway and a lot of construction. Difficult to get work done during the day. - no room service before 6pm - service less than satisfactory. Would never ever come back. I've stayed at Radisson's before and they were never as bad as this. I will stay at a Radisson again, just not this one. Stay away. Better options, Delta Vancouver Airport or Fairmont Vancouver Airport if you need to be close to YVR. Stay downtown otherwise (Pan Pacific, Pacific Palisades, Marriott Pinnacle). |
