Review of the Highlander Restaurant

My gf and I went to Highlander for DOV. After spending some time researching where the place was, it wasn't too hard to find (basically, right across from Costco on Bridgeport). When we got there, one of the servers said we didn't have a reservation, even though we made one days earlier, but we seated right away in the middle of the restaurant.

Food: I had the Lobster Bisque, Prime Rib, and the Chocolate Cake, while my gf had the Prawns, Stuffed Trout, and the Tiramisu (which I tried a portion of each). The Lobster Bisque was good, kinda thick, with a tomato taste. I'm not sure what Lobster Bisque is suppose be like, since it was my first time having it. The Prawn I had was good too, a slight Thai Curry taste, but sweet as well. The Prime Rib was Terrific, good portion size, great taste and cooked right, served with soft mash potatoes, and an assortment of vegies. The trout wasn't as good but pretty decent, the combination of trout and lobster taste worked really well. However, my gf reported bones in the piece that she had, so beware. The Chocolate Cake was one of the best I've had, it was brownie-fudge-brownie-fudge, with raspberry sauce and strawberry whip cream. Overall, if I rated my gf's food too it would be a 4.5/5. But everything I ordered was great, so 5/5

Service: The restaurant itself is quite small, and there were servers running between the kitchen and pub, so most of the time, a server was in sight to help with anything we needed. But a lot of the time I felt a little ignored by them. I dunno if they wanted to give us more privacy or whatever, but twice we had finished plates and servers would walk by, glance, and keep walking. But overall, the servers were all very nice, the water was always refilled and there were quality checks. 4/5

Value: What can I say? $28 dollars for 3 great courses. 5/5

Ambiance: The restaurant has its charms. It was dimly lit with nice classical music in the background. The decor was a little old fashion for my liking, but it is a restaurant inside an inn. It plays along nicely with the theme on the outside of the inn. Its unfortunate that they had so many tables set up in such a small space. our table was too close to the others, and their louder conversation ruined part of the mood for us. Really a 3.5/5, but I'm still enchanted by the food, so 4/5.
