So, my brother booked one hotel and my husband got directions to another. We
showed up here at 10 am, after being up all night on the train, with all our
luggage thinking we had a reservation. We had to carry our stuff on a hot, muggy
morning from the sky train which is 4 long blocks away! The front desk staff
found us rooms for the night, let us get into one right away to drop off our
luggage and take showers. They also phoned the other hotel and canceled our
reservation at the other holiday Inn...no charge. They were incredibly nice
especially since I was yelling at my brother. The room was quiet, the bed
comfortable, the breakfast was very good. The front desk staff was phenomenal.
The airport shuttle was wonderful the next morning.

We stayed in this hotel early in August when heading out on an Alaskan Cruise.
Overall this is a nice hotel with good front staff, good breakfast and
comfortable beds. The one complaint I have is that when we arrived in our room
the toilet had what looked like a lump of ashes sitting in the bowl. We called
down to the desk and they sent someone up right away to make sure there was not
some mechanical fault. They could find nothing wrong with it but the residue
from whatever it was (still think it was a large container of ashes dumped in)
was there our whole stay even after three people using it. The rest of the room
was very clean so I am not sure what that was about. The park and cruise option
is great. The hotel took care of getting us down to the cruise dock and they
even took care of the luggage, getting it right into the customs terminal -
nothing for us to worry about. If it hadn't been for the toilet issue, I would
have rated this hotel much higher.

We stayed one night and had no complaints. We were able to check in early,
although check in is normally 4 pm. The hotel has windows that open which was
good to get fresh air. The room was not large and we expected as much, however
the bathroom was very large. We checked out early but were able to sample the
breakfast which was more than ample. Although this hotel is under the flight
path of arriving planes, you did not hear any of them. We would definitely stay
here again.

I never expect much from chains, but the room was modern, clean, superbly
equipped. The reception staff were exceptional. And attached to the hotel is a
Fogs & Suds restaurant. If you just need one night, this is the place. While it
is located in the middle of nowhere, far far from the airport the shuttle
bypasses rush hour traffic to make the run in 15-18 minutes. We were placed here
by Air Canada who changed our schedule so while we were not pleased in having to
take an extra vacation day to travel on the new itinerary, the hotel made up for
the unpleasantry. Kudos to HIE Van Airport (Richmond).

Although this hotel is probably used mostly by people who are taking flights out
of Vancouver Airport the next morning, it is actually quite a good hotel to stay
in when exploring the area. It is quite a distance from Vancouver city centre
but if you have a car it's about a half-an-hour trip (if you avoid rush
hours!!). There is good public transportation nearby, particularly the Sky
Train, which is very clean and safe and avoids the need to pay for downtown
parking. The hotel is a pretty typical Holiday Inn with no restaurant, but there
is a breakfast area with a good selection. |
