Guest Reviews of the La Quinta Inn Vancouver Airport

Clean hotel surrounded by Chinese businesses and restaurants. Good size and
clean room with a view over the car park and across to the mountains. Bathroom
was a good size but with only the one bar of soap and one tiny shampoo. There
was a coffee machine with paper cups, safe and an iron and board. We had a stop
over so we choose to be close to the airport so we were prepared for the noise.
The staff on the desk were helpful and allowed us to store our luggage whilst we
filled in the day before our night flight and transfers were provided. Listed in
the facilities the 'Market Place', this turned out to be a small room with 5
vending machines. The hotel had a tiny indoor pool and coin operated washing
machine.
We choose this hotel over others in the area because they served waffles for
breakfast they did not mention that you had to cook your own and would have to
get down early. Breakfast was until 9.00 am we got down about 8.40 am and the
waffle machines were being cleared - waffles finished! The bay-marie of
scrambled eggs was also empty. Decided to start with cereal and juice and were
shocked to find only polystyrene crockery and plastic cutlery. The cereal was
stale and the juice watered down. We only just got this before the milk and
juice were cleared. We grabbed the last to pieces of bread and put it in the
toaster before they could take it so they took the condiments - still ten
minuets before 9.00 am. I ran after the staff to the kitchen and grabbed some
butter and jam, I got some milk back for the cereal and the coffee I poured
before it to was also cleared. Whilst doing this I noticed two muffins they had
neglected and I grabbed them - we laughed. No washing up in this hotel - all was
cleared by 9.00 am the plastic rubbish bags tired up and replaced in front of
us. Whilst we we still eating the breakfast staff lined up for there cheques and
left - we laughed again at Chinese efficiency.
We would not willing stay here again I would pay extra for a china cup.

We stayed here one night in May, paid about $100. The hotel has enlarged since
we were last here, but the service and quality is just as good, lovely, soft
king size bed. Only two criticisms – the airport plane noise seems louder than
in the past – not really intrusive but louder.....and what’s with the in room
wi-fi system? They require you to sign-up for some web based system that I just
couldn’t be bothered to do, so I didn’t check any emails. No worries, but what’s
wrong with just giving me a password to the wi-fi system as is done in many
other hotels. Minor niggle, but I just wanted to get it off my chest. They do
have a computer centre in the lobby for guests to use though.Guest Reviews of the La Quinta Inn Vancouver Airport

Ooooh.... it's nice to be back. 4 months of travel in Mexico and passing through
Vancouver and crashing at the La Quinta. It's good to be almost home.
Two nights ago I stayed at the “other place” in Richmond at this price point
that is currently rated 4th in Richmond by TA. The LQ was full. I've waited
months to try that “other place” as I wanted to check out the competition at
this price level. That “other place” was nice but cramped and lacked the open,
modern, breathable feel of the La Quinta. The “other place” is perfectly
fine...but the La Quinta is fine-er and $10 cheaper...with more stuff.
La Quinta remains the best value out there within a 25 minute transit ride of
downtown Vancouver. And I'm trying to figure out why the La Quinta isn't higher
on the TA ranking.
The front desk staff have sometimes seemed to be a bit indifferent about
service. Neutral might be a better word. But I've seen the same thing flexing my
Starwood Preferred Guest card at Westins and Hiltons. I've never looked for
rewarding social engagement with front desk staff at any hotel and I've always
had efficient check in/out with every stay at LQ.
I don't use the airport shuttle on arrival. As with any shuttle, if your timing
isn't right, you will wait. I catch the Skytrain, transfer at the River Rock
Casino and walk the 8 minutes to the hotel, often picking something up at the
mall on the way there. 20 minutes. Done. A free service does not come with
entitlement to perfect service. What is your time worth? Mine is worth Skytrain
fare. I do use the shuttle for air departures.
I've stayed here with my Black Labrador and family in a lovely room, the
curtains have always kept out the light and I don't wear bathrobes...steady now,
don't dwell on it. I like the coin laundry as I know that I'll get my clothes
back and when. I like aircraft spotting from the top deck. I love the breakfast
waffles but hate the mystery-meat-sausage-things and wish there was more fresh
fruit. And please put some kind of blinds on the pool area windows. I feel like
a sunfish at the Miami aquarium.
And then there is the little stuff that makes a difference like desks with plugs
at the front. No power bars and a tangle of wires under the desk or moving
furniture in search of an outlet or tripping over a stretched power cord...done
that lots at pricier places. A view of tree tops instead of metal recycling lots
or warehouse roofs as at the “other place”. Newspaper at your door in the AM.
Big elevator for big bags. Wide bright hallways. Solid granite bathroom counters
and shower stalls. Fresh paint and clean, unworn carpets...at the lowest rates
you'll find near Vancouver.
The “other place” will remain as my alternative when the LQ is booked. But I
might even change my travel dates so I can stay at the LQ. It's that good. |
