Restaurants have kept their outdoor spaces primed for the summer weather, as diners head outdoors to eat.

Which establishment in downtown Vancouver has the best patio? Well, I first have to admit that there are so many good ones out there that it is definitely a matter of opinion. It also depends on the weather, the time of day and the company that you are with. So here are a few of our favourites

Backstage Lounge
Check out a play at one of Granville Island 's many theatres, then discuss it over drinks on the Backstage Lounge patio.

Blue Water Cafe
Seafood Specialists and Wine Experts. The main bar offers over 20 wines by the glass as well as iced vodka, and opens to a sunny, heated patio.

Brix Restaurant and Wine Bar
This Yaletown restaurant has one of the most interesting patios in the city. Walking into the arched entrance, the air feels like the exterior, but the courtyard is actually covered. The roof sits three stories above and is all glass, making the unpredictable Vancouver weather a non-issue for dining outside. During the daytime, it’s a lovely spot to catch a prolonged lunch and in the evenings it turns into a romantic hideaway with a European flare.

In the back lies a walled in open-air patio, private from the neighbours and away from the busy street. This concealed oasis is a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon or settle in for an evening similar to that of being in a friend’s backyard.

With so many locations with patios to choose from, any Earl's in the Lower Mainland is a hot spot for mixing it up after work.

Parkside Restaurant's courtyard patio is a hidden gem
Tucked away just a block or so from Stanley Park, . The perfect spot for a decadent special dinner - they recently received an "honourable mention" in the Best Restaurant category of the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.

Pinkys Steakhouse
Signature cocktails, killer steaks and a well appointed tables make this new kid on the block a Yaletown heavy-weight. Bust out the nice threads.
