Kettle of Fish
|
A downtown Vancouver restaurant landmark served its final meals last night
(October 17 2010).
A Kettle of Fish closed its doors for good at 900 Pacific Street after 31 years
in business.
Its focus on West Coast cuisine and its greenery-filled interior made it a
popular destination for tourists as well as local residents.
The building is owned by the City of Vancouver, which shut off right turns from
Pacific onto Hornby Street when it created separated bike lanes over the Burrard
Bridge last year. The restaurant's parking lot was accessible via Hornby Street.
This year, restaurateurs across the province were hit hard by the imposition of
the harmonized sales tax, which resulted in a new seven-percent provincial sales
tax on meals.
In addition, tough new drinking-and-driving regulations imposed harsh penalties
on those who blow more than 0.05 percent blood-alcohol content on a breathalyzer. |
