For those who have to go to downtown Vancouver and who really like to walk at
the beginning and end of the day (60 min each time) this hotel is located at the
foot of the mountains ~5 km from downtown and offers an unforgettable view of
the mountains from the Lions Gate Bridge and a walk through the Stanley Park
before to arrive to downtown. Even though the continental breakfast is very,
very rudimentary the price is fair.

We chose the Grouse Inn for its location and its relatively low price at the
last minute. First the not-so-good. It doesn’t have much curb appeal. It’s laid
out in a very dated 2-story motel style reminiscent of the ’50s or ’60s, which
includes walking paths just outside your door and window. It’s hard to get in
and out of during the afternoon rush hour due to the Lion’s Gate bridge backups.
The free breakfast is almost not worth it. There’s toast, L’eggo waffles, and
cereal served in a room that is woefully inadequate to handle the crush of
guests, and you have to manoeuvre from the toast to the OJ like crossing a
crowded dance floor. That said, it seems that they have kept up with the
maintenance over the years, and overall it was pretty clean. They compensated
for the dated carpeting, fixtures, and appliances with contemporary bed linens.
Beds were comfortable. Staff in the office was friendly and helpful enough. I’d
recommend this hotel only if you can get a good deal and are just looking for a
reasonable place to sleep. It’s definitely not the place if you are looking for
decor, lots of personal service, or any kind of status.

The location of the motel is adequate being near a fitness centre and only a few
blocks away from a major grocery store and several fast food establishments.
Would definitely stay there again. No street noise. Front desk staff was very
helpful. Really good breakfast. Restaurant on premises as well.

I had to spend about a month in a hotel due to renovations of my home. It
started out with a promise of a special rate, but in the end they charged me the
normal rate, and I had to use all of my assertiveness to receive what I had been
quoted in the first place.
The rooms are a shame. There is dust and dead insects like flies and others
around the wall, in the corners and behind the head board. You can tell they
never vacuum. I brought my own vacuum to clean it in the beginning. I only
stayed because the surrounding hotels hotels were occupied or uglier than this
one.
The bed spread was disgusting. The sheets looked like they were used. I
complained and they gave me another room, a tiny bit better, still dirty and
ugly.
I sprayed insecticide everywhere. I was worried about bed bugs, it was so bad.
Because I got a monthly rate, they did not clean every day, only twice a week
and I did not get clean towels more often either.
I think it is a disgrace. I have traveled all over the US and the remotest
motels are nicer and cleaner than this one.
I don't understand, because the North Vancouver area is pretty upscale.
Stay elsewhere if you can. The only good thing about it was a free internet
connection.

Surprisingly nice - clean, tidy, reasonable, traditional motel, can park car
right outside room. Ok breakfast included. Next door to reasonable restaurant.
Location gives easy access to downtown, west Van. and North Van.
