Hotel Review of the Vancouver Lions Gate Travelodge
7 September 2011
The day I showed up I was told that only one of the rooms I had booked was ready
and the other one was going to be cleaned soon. I confirmed that both rooms wer
non-smoking and asked them to take their time and get the cleaning right. I then
checked into the first room (which was non-smoking). Getting the second room
took three phone calls to the front desk and about 90 minutes.
The rest of my family checked into the second room outside of which there was NO
non-smoking sign. I figured that didn't mean anything but the next morning we
found out that the bathroom in the "smoking" room smelled of cigarette smoke.
I was told , very rudely, by the front desk staff that they wouldn't be arguing
the point with me when I pointed out that I was given a smoking room when I
clearly booked a non-smoking one. How could I tell for sure that it was a
smoking room? Because it did not have a non-smoking sign and the bathroom was
filled with the smell of smoke.
All this despite me waiting patiently for about an hour and a half while the
room could be cleaned before check in. Tardiness I can tolerate, lying on the
other hand is unacceptable. Will never stay at this place again. I'd advise you
to do the same unless you can abide by their lies. There's a place called Grouse
Inn next door which looked nicer. I'll probably try that out the next time I
visit.
I did stay at another Travelodge in Victoria and the experience was excellent.
Something I've come to expect from Travelodge hotels. This place seems like an
exception.

The hotel mentioned above was a nice place, not expensive, quiet and the staff
was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again, if we came back to
Vancouver. The location was very good, because from there we could easily get to
the seabus terminal and to Stanley Park and close there was a very good
restaurant for dining.

We booked online through a discount website. We booked a non smoking room. When
we checked in we were put in a smoking room. When we asked for a non smoking
room, we were told we could make a switch for a non smoking room for the full
price. The toilet did not flush. It swirled around and then the water leaked out
leaving us with raw sewage for our "four" nights stay. The third day we were
late leaving the room and room cleaning service passed us by. I made a special
trip to the front desk to make sure we wer not overlooked for room service. I
was assured room service was until 5:30pm and that our room would be cleaned. It
was not. The front desk made no effort to check to see we were not passed over.
The room was dirty and smoky. So, if you stay there take several bottles of
febreze for the air. The beds are old and the mattresses sag. Use the fabreze on
everything, the curtains, bed cover, the floor. The rooms are not worth the full
price, but be aware you will not get the room you asked for on a discount
website.

We booked it via Hotwire and got a somewhat decent price for a room, but hotels
in Vancouver are generally overpriced. The room had a warm and cozy atmosphere
to it, very inviting.
North Vancouver is a mere 20-minute drive from downtown Vancouver in the lower
mainland, but it feels that much more tranquil and closer to nature.

it was an alright stay the room seemed a little run down. The stay started off
really wrong, the doors were locked when we arrived at 7 o'clock in the evening
and there was no one around at the reception desk. Once we got into the room
things kind of improved a bit but....the safe in the room said that it had
difficulties locking and was there for disabled, so if you require a safe while
traveling this is not the hotel for you. The shower pressure was really great
and the water was warm but the shower it's self was a little dark and kind of
sketchy. the tile floor looked unfinished and the drain looked dirty. The
pillows super small but the bed was comfortable. There were very few plugs in
the room so if you have electronics that need to be charged I would not
recommend this hotel. I would stay there again as a last resort. The room was
quiet and we couldn't hear our neighbours, I guess you get what you pay for!
