These Vancouver Hotel reviews are the subjective opinion of a Guest and not of Allure Hotels any
concerns or request can be made at time of booking either on-line or on the
phone. Editors Review.
A newer 12-story residence next door to the Georgian Court Hotel and across
from BC and GM Place. An excellent choice for travelers on limited budgets.
Bedrooms are simply furnished; some have TVs. Three communal kitchens are
available for guests' use, and all rooms have mini fridges. The Y has TV lounges
and free access to the gym, the nearby coed YWCA Fitness Centre. It a great
location for skytrain and a short walk to all downtown activities.

We arrived at this hotel at 10.00am after an overnight flight. And much to our
shock we were able to go into our room, which was totally brilliant. The rooms
were very nice, quite big and clean. There are communal kitchens and a laundry.
The staff were helpful and were able to give advice. Security at the hotel was
good, the doors locked at 11.00pm but you could get buzzed in. The lifts also
had a security key which was also good. It was in quite a good location, you
could walk to most destinations in the city. A very good value hotel.

I have read the other reviews of this hotel and many are accurate, however there
is one thing to look out for. Because of it's modest cost, the YWCA attracts
many tours especially school sports clubs (rugby, football, hockey etc). If you
happen to be on a floor with 20 young people, many of whom are going away from
home for the first time, then expect some high jinks till the early hours of the
morning.
If, like me, you like to get early to bed, and then early to rise you will find
yourself short of sleep after a couple of days. Be sure to pack the ear-plugs!

Only stayed one night, in a room with a shared bathroom but was very impressed.
Much better than most hostels and a great price. Shared bathrooms were clean and
I never had to wait as I think lots of rooms have their own bathrooms... ours
had a sink which was handy. The room was large - plenty of room for luggage, and
a fridge which would have been handy if staying longer. Staff in lobby were
helpful, ice and drinking water available as well as internet (pay computers or
pay wireless) Get the use of swimming pool at other ywca, but about a 20min
walk. Would recommend to others - clean safe and family friendly.

We stayed at the YWCA 5 nights in mid-July. After travelling through the rockies
and staying in a few Hostels this Hotel was a real gem.
We had a private room with private bathroom an television.
It was small but cosy, but really enough place for the both of us and our 4
luggages :).
The kitchen an the floor was a bonus too, and the stuff was very helpfull.
I would it recommend to everyone who wants to stay on a budget but have the
benefits of an hotel.

My partner and I stayed here twice as we commuted through Vancouver. We stayed
in a room with a private bathroom both times.
I'm sure you've stayed at places that demand a high price tag, but are
completely impractical for the traveller. You may be surrounded by great views
or furnishings but all these nice extras are superfluous to your needs and
things you do really need when you're on an extended holiday.... ironing
board....convenient washing facilities.....the sort of comfortable furnishings
you'd find at home... are either troublesome to acquire or simply not available.
This is not one of those places. In fact, this place hits the spot when it comes
to providing what you need when travelling. This place gets the basics right
where so many businesses get these basic things so wrong.
In short, this place is awesome and is in the top 3 hotels we stayed in
throughout our trip to Canada (out of say 20 hotels we stayed in). It was also
one of the 3 cheapest. Make no mistake it is budget, but it has all the
necessary conveniences and the basic luxuries (space and facilities). Great
washing facilities and the disabled room we had was huge. We looked forward to
returning to this accommodation despite having stayed extensive periods in
hotels where we paid rates over 7 times more expensive.
This hotel is close to the 'bad' part of town, but you wouldn't know it unless
you happened to walk in a North-East direction. You are close to a skytrain
station (to get you across town a little quicker) and you're close to the
Vancouver retail district.
The people at reception were very helpful and friendly.
The money we saved we put towards dinner at Le Gavroche. Lovely ambience, but
the quality of the meal did not match the price.
Rooms only contain double or single beds as far as I am aware. This was my only
slight criticism.
YWCA. Highly Highly recommended if you're looking for comfort without pampering. |
