We booked a nice room for our anniversary weekend, and would certainly
come again. The Jacuzzi was a nice feature... Very helpful and friendly
staff, a nice place to stay, close to everything.
Great location within the downtown, too.
We're already thinking Valentine's Day...

This was a great place to stay in Vancouver. Our stay was short and we
arrived at 5.30am and had booked for the night before. We were made most
welcome with our room being checked before we booked in to make sure it
was ok. This hotel was walking distance to most attractions including
Gastown and Granville Island. A must on Granville Island is the shop
that sells stone carvings from Zimbabwe. In the doorway is Harry the
Hippo, who you cant help but rub his tummy. The carvings are absolutely
magnificent especially when you talk to the proprietor and find out a
little about the carvers history.

We happened to book the weekend over the Halloween period and we had so
much fun! Hotel staff was very nice and courteous, room nice and clean,
a bit on a smaller side, but we got used to that already, all big cities
have that problem. Security was first class, some people tried to party
in the hallways, but were sent to their rooms with warning that one more
noise , they will be out, which was very nice, we wanted to go to sleep
at some point. We went out, the whole Granville street was alive, it was
amazing. we will definitely be back!!!

I stayed here for 2 weeks from August 31st till September 11th. All of
the stuffs are very nice and know everything in Vancouver. Many stuffs
are speaking English as their second language, so they know how
difficult to do it for foreigners. (I'm Japanese.) I can say to them
that take it easy to stay here and ask stuffs anything. The room is
cleaned up by excellent housekeepers everyday! When I saw them, they
were always smiling and made me happy!! The manager Lucia knows Japanese
very much, so Japanese should stay here and make funny conversation in
Japanese!haha
There are a lot of good restaurants around here, you don't need to be
worried about that as well!
Anyway if you go to Vancouver, you must not have any choices except to
Howard Johnson Vancouver!!!

This was our 3rd stay in 3 years. This is our "official hotel" everytime
we come to Canada. Clean rooms, great staff, great location, good price,
what else can we ask for? Now we even get recognized by hotel
housekeeping staff and front desk staff. They all are just great, and we
can not wait till the next time. \once again, thank you for
everything!!!!

The people who give this place a poor rating haven't stayed in Vancouver
very often. Vancouver is expensive. The area around the Vancouver HoJO
is a bit sketchy at night, but we were only hit by two panhandlers in a
ten block walk, and saw no obvious hookers. There are homeless people,
all right, but that's what you get in a place with a nice climate. (You
want homeless, try Victoria!) The parking lot is small for the number of
rooms, and might fill up in summer. It's expensive for the cost of the
rooms (rooms run from $70 to $90, parking is $19) but that's not bad for
Vancouver. The lobby is a bit small, but okay. The bar/restaurant that
opens off the lobby is loud, and if you're hard of hearing you might be
challenged by the desk clerk's accent - I suspect that all the clerks
are Asian, with fairly heavy accents. Rooms are small (very) but clean.
Everything works, including the internet and the window aircon. Good
bed. My wife asked for a washcloth and it came promptly. Elevators are
also small, and in high season might be a problem. When I asked if I
could leave the car in the lot until 4 (check-out is 1) the clerk said,
"No problem." Again, the place wasn't busy at the time - the lot was
only half-full. I thought it was good value for the money, and $20
cheaper than the next cheapest hotel downtown, also in the same area.
Right across the street is a Chinese restaurant that serves a big
breakfast for $6 including coffee. I don't know what the rest of the
food is like, but the breakfast was fine.

I only stayed at this hotel for 1 night - could not fault the hotel,
very airey & spacious. However, I wasnt keen on the area the hotel was
based and therefore this would put me off booking there again
unfortunately.
I thought London was bad with homeless people but Vancouver beats it
hand down.
Didnt eat at the hotel so cant comment on food.

Stayed for two nights, be careful which room they give you, some are
noisy due to construction work next to the hotel and some have very weak
Wifi connection. Could change room without a problem and was very happy
afterwards. Good location for going out and shopping. Bus stopp in front
of the hotel or 1Min walk for other directions.

I booked this as a stop over between Vancouver Island and Sun Peaks as
it had a free car park and what a great find, didn't look that good from
the street but inside like a small boutique hotel, we checked in the
room and were then given a fruit basket, nice touch, the room was clean
and comfortable, no view but a great TV, it's above a pub but mid week
the music stopped at ten, the Bfast was nice except the loud music. If
you were hoping to visit downtown this may be too far out if no car, and
there is a great Greek nearby called Safinari, would definitely
recommend.

attractions/shopping.

I booked a room for 2 adults for 1 night of Aug15th- at Howard Johnson
at 1176 Granville, Vancouver, BC through Hotwire.com. They couldn't find
my reservation-so I forwarded it to Patricia, the front desk clerk,
right there and then. Patricia asked if we wanted 1 bed or two beds-of
course I said 2 beds. We went up to the room, left our luggage & went
for dinner. Upon our return-there was a message on the phone from
Patricia saying we would be charged an extra $15 for 2 double beds. I
called Hotwire, but to no avail-they told me "they couldn't get in
between the hotel & I". My girlfriend went down to speak to Patricia to
remind her of what she said-Patricia changed the story to say she told
us they may be an extra charge for 2 beds.
What is the world coming to when hotels are trying to rip off people for
$15.00? |
