I was returning from Puerto Vallarta Mexico and needed a place because
of a late flight. I chose the Hojo because of it's cheap price right
after the Winter Olympics $69 per night plus tax. It is a 15 minute walk
down Granville from the downtown Canada Line exit or same from Yaletown
exit. It was 130 am when I checked in and the hotel was quiet. The bed
was good and coffee shops are right across the street. If you are in
Vancouver for the nightlife it would be a great place as it is on
Granville. I will probably stay there again. Older building but well
kept up. Restaurant / bar on premise , no breakfast included.

at $59 a night, I could not pass this up, considering its in downtown
Vancouver and within walking distance to cross over to Granville
Island!...the room was small but freshly painted and clean, the bathroom
very clean and roomy and bright. This is an older hotel yes, but it
appears to be well kept...the front desk staff was very helpful with
giving me transportation directions every day. Overall a good
experience...including dinner at Wings in the hotel...only drawback was
the nightclub this hotel is attached to. I could hear the music from my
room, but not disturbing enough not to be able to sleep...again overall
I would stay here again for the right price!...and the free wireless
internet in the room was a great bonus!

I live in Nanaimo, BC and every time that me and my friends decide to go
for a fun night out in Vancouver we stay at this hotel, they have the
best rates you can get for such an amazing location, the rooms are good,
not excellent but not terrible either, exactly what I was expecting for
that price, it gets a little noisy at night, but for me it is
understandable because of the location, the staff is very kind and
friendly, overall a good and pleasant stay that totally met its purpose:
to sleep!.

I was very nervous about staying here after reading other reviews but the
location and price was too good so I gave it a go. Overall I had no problems
with the staff and found them to be pleasant and helpful at all times. The room
was average and dated (had a slight musty smell) but was clean and a decent
size. I stayed Sun - Weds so it was very quite as the downstairs bar closed
early. The location is fantastic and overall it was good basic accommodation if
your standards are not too high. The food in the bar is great. The main problem
was the elevator kept breaking which was a hassle taking suitcases up stairs,
also the street itself is a bit dodgy - nothing too scary but a bit unpleasant
at night if you are are a single female.

Me and my husband spent one night here before flying home and it was a terrible
hotel. it was booked through last minute.com and on the site it said nothing
about a night club in the hotel which plays extremely loud music until 2am and
the hotel is full of very loud drunk people. i specified when booking that i was
7 months pregnant and asked it if was possible for a quiet room but I don't
think there is such thing. my husband complained and asked if we could be moved
somewhere quieter as we had to be up very early for out flight and they said no.
the walls were paper thin the staff were not very friendly or helpful, the TV
didn't work properly, the room was not very clean or nice the area was not very
nice and had nothing close by. i complained to last minuite.com 3 weeks ago and
still have had no response and complained to Howard Johnson who emailed back
saying the hotel manager will get back to us within 2 weeks and it has now been
3 weeks and i have heard nothing so they obviously don't care about complaints
either. i would strongly recommend avoiding this hotel at all costs, i travelled
around Canada with my husband for 3 weeks staying in different hotels every
night and this is the only hotel and booking site that i have a bad word to say
about. Guest Reviews of the Howard Johnson Hotel Vancouver Downtown

You pay for what you get. I got a great deal . Rate was 59 CAD on Thursday night
and 69 CAD on Friday night. It was a great location, staff was helpful and
friendly. Close to walk to Granville Island, Gastown, Robson St, the works!
Parking was eary and fairly inexpensive (14CAD/night) The room was small but had
what you needed: bathroom, desk, TV and bed. I would probably stay there again
and the perk is the LOCATION! Its inexpensive and right in the heart of
everything. You can walk anywhere from that hotel! Guest Reviews of the Howard Johnson Vancouver Downtown

This was my second stay at the Hojo. The location is great--very
central--although parts of Granville are gritty. Overall, this hotel provides
good value for money, at least during the low season. However, I was
disappointed with the level of customer service during this visit and some
aspects of the room. For example, I could not access pay-per-view movies on my
TV and although I was told the matter was being looked into, the problem was
never resolved. I also had to phone to get updates on the situation rather than
staff following up with me. In addition, after my trip, I found out that I could
have collected Aeroplan points for my stay had I enrolled in the Wyndham program
(which I could have done at the hotel), but the staff did not inform me of this
opportunity. I would have appreciated a heads up on this or a sign saying that
the stay could qualify for Aeroplan points. I cannot get these points credited
even though I am an Aeroplan member because I had not enrolled in the Wyndham
program.
In terms of the room, you could hear the bass from a nearby club well into the
early morning on Fri and Sat, and since it was not coming in through the
windows, all I could do was sleep with earplugs. I also found the mattress I was
sleeping on to be very soft and uncomfortable. Finally, the hotel uses strong
smelling cleaning products to which I had an allergic reaction (stuffy nose,
headache).
I would still recommend this hotel, but caution that you may not get a very good
night's sleep on weekends and staff are friendly, but a bit passive........
