These Vancouver Hotel reviews are the subjective opinion of a Guest and not of Allure Hotels
any concerns or request can be made at time of booking either on-line or on the
phone. Editors Review Granville Streets ongoing beautification, this
formerly down and hotel was bought, gutted, renovated, and reopened with an eye
to the budget-conscious traveler. The rooms are simply furnished; the suites
have kitchenettes and sofa beds. The rooms are moderately larger and more
comfortable than at the Ramada across the street. Keep in mind, however, that
while quite safe, the Hotel is located on the Granville Entertainment strip
where the street activity goes on very late you will see mostly party goers,
mixed in with some panhandlers and street kids.
The entertainment district is mainly clubs bars, and retail shops. Aug 8, 2008
We had a very bad experience staying there. Problems with the check-in, very
unhelpful staff, a very bad smell all over, the airco was like 30 yrs old and
didn't cool, the bathroom and the room itself were very small, and last but not
least: you can hear EVERYTHING that happens in the rooms nextdoor!! Really a
terrible experience, by far the worst in our 16-day stay in Canada...

We stayed at the Hotel in Downtown Vancouver twice in May, we had a wonderful
time, the staff are excellent and the level of cleanliness is outstanding, the
beds were very clean and lovely white sheets and pillow, the towels of which
there were plenty were soft and clean, will definately stay again. The Manager
is extremely helpful and is always there to make sure all is well,

My husband and I travelled by train from Toronto to Vancouver and stayed in this
hotel for 7 nights. We had a wonderful stay. Staff were very helpful and
friendly. The room was spotless and we quickly became friendly with the cleaning
staff. We could not have asked for a more friendly bunch of people. You are only
about 2 blocks from the high-end shops and streets. For the good value we got,
we certainly didn't mind walking for 3 minutes. A washer and dryer were also
available for travellers which was absolutely wonderful.
The other hotels that were right in the same area (within half a block) were
priced at sometimes double and more for what we got at this hotel. I was
actually surprised when I saw that they were right on the same block and twice
as much money.
We definitely will go back and are planning our next trip for 2009. The room was
so nice that we are going to ask for the same one again.
Bravo to the hotel and cleaning staff for making our vacation so nice and
relaxing. Jun 24, 2008
Two words.....BED BUGS!!!! My sister and I stayed one night at this hotel while
on an overnight business trip to Vancouver. We were disappointed in the overall
appearance of the hotel and the front desk staff were not helpful. The morning
after, I discovered small red bumps on my arms, back, and buttox. During the day
they continued to swell and the next day, they were the size of a loonie with
pussy centers. I go off to the doctor, who sends me to a dermatologist, who
diagnoses the painful, itchy swelling as an allergic reaction to BED BUG BITES.
Disgusting.. I have a call into the hotel manager who has not yet called me back
and front end staff were not helpful on the phone. So save yourself time off
work, expensive medications, and body pain and stay somewhere else.

This is my second stay at the Howard Johnsons at the corner of Davie and
Grenville in Vancouver and once again it met and exceeded expectations. Sure it
is not a high end like the hotel here where I stayed on my last visit so no
views and minimal lobby but in terms of Hotel Location and comfort plus an unbeatable
price, first class. Ask for a room at the back..I was again on the first floor
and in the morning facing South opened the blinds to let the room be flooded
with sunlight. (Very quite with no traffic noise at all).
The lobby is tasteful and inviting, with a restaurant and a mezzanine which I
discovered this time with free coffee and hot chocolate plus internet. Again
tastefully decorated and inviting..but no views of course. The room is likewise
well decorated in warm colours and ample size with Queen bed. (and very
comfortable). Bathroom has been nicely updated. Mirror could be larger but is
fine. The corridors are nicely and warmly decorated and what I really like are
the many nicely framed early 1900 photos of Vancouver. The Hotel Location is perfect
for a 10 minute walk to the Grenville Island waterfront, the little ferry and I
enjoyed being able to jog from the hotel down a few blocks to the waterfront and
then all along English Bay..wonderful. Many restaurants within a few blocks. And
the staff very helpful and polite..house-keeping every day. No complaints
whatsoever and highly recommended to have such quality for the price charged.
Stayed 4 nights this time enroute to Tokyo. Why spend more! Feb 20, 2008
For the money the hotel isn't bad, but don't expect much. The people working the
front desk were not very friendly or helpful. The parking lot for the hotel was
full when we checked in at 5pm. The person checking us in gave us no other
options for parking, but we overheard another employee talking to another guest
advise them of a nearby city lot. This was $16 for 24 hours. The room was very
small. Not much bigger than a large closet. On the plus side it was clean. There
was quite a bit of noise from people coming and going until about 2:30am. The
bed was not very comfortable. We thought breakfast was included (this may or may
not have been my error), and other guests did have a voucher for breakfast, In
general, I think there are better options for the money.

This was my second stay at the Howard Johnson in downtown Vancouver. Upon
arrival I checked into a room with 1 double bed for $59 plus tax. My room was on
the 1st floor near the elevator and heard no noise. My room was well equipped
with tv, wireless internet, phone, desk and lamps. Room and Bathroom was very
clean and bed very comfortable. The Hotel Location is on the southern part of downtown
and a short walk to Granville Island Ferries, bars and restaurants on Granville
as well as short walk to anywhere in downtown. Staff are extremely friendly and
in off season rate includes a full breakfast in the restaurant. Will definitely
be back.
