I would call The Tropicana "shabby chic". Slightly worn around the edges but,
clean and full of character. The suite was comfy, very clean and I couldn't hear
the neighbours at all. The kitchen was impeccably clean and supplied with dishes
and cookware, all in clean working order. I could walk in my socks on the rug
and they stayed clean (a clean room test for me). The price is right for
downtown Vancouver. Great restaurants and shopping within walking distance, free
off street parking and attentive staff. The lower floors seem to be permanent
residents, we met a few and they were very cordial and helpful. Never saw any
sign on "children tearing through the lobby" or "surly" staff of any kind. We
will definitely be back the next time we travel to Vancouver.

This all suite hotel is a mix of residents and guests. We were delighted to find
a clean apartment with a wonderful staff who were very helpful. If you are
looking for a multi-cultural experience in a multi-cultural city, this is your
place. If you are a Holiday Inn type with prefab breakfast of junk food, you may
want to look elsewhere. Rooms were recently renovated with a complete apartment
(including pots and pans) There are many great dining and shopping opportunities
nearby or hop on one of the many tour busses available. Robson St is the fashion
area of Vancouver so it's all available for you! Enjoy!

After a recommendation from a our group made a reservation at this hotel when we
were traveling to Vancouver on business and added a personal day on to our trip.
We knew that we were staying at a budget hotel but this was so "low-rent" that
you couldn't pay me to stay there. The first impression was so deplorable we
didn't even check into our room. Upon entering the lobby you are greeted by an
odour that can only be described as the great unwashed doused in cheap perfume.
Children (elementary school age) tearing through the lobby. We were "greeted" by
a surly front desk agent in a faded ratty t-shirt. Our reservation was
incorrect. We had booked for 4 girls to stay in one room and had been told we
would have 2 Queens & a pullout when making the reservation. We were told what
was a available was a room with one double and a pull out, that Queens didn't
even exist and they were sold out. We then pointed out their website details
including the information of bed type - Queens exist). We stepped aside to talk
about what we were going to do. It was at this point we opted to check Expedia
for alternate accommodation. When he realized what we were doing he YELLED at us
to "just leave then". Done!
I cannot comment on rooms, amenities or anything else other then to say that
perhaps they rent their rooms by the hour.Hotel reviews of

This hotel does not appear to have had any updating since the 1970's. It might
have been a three star when first opened, but is a zero star now. Filthy
carpets, holes in the walls, holes in the sheets, no doors on the closets, rock
hard mattresses, threadbare towels. Intense and nauseating smell of smoke. We
had to sleep with the windows open in mid winter because of the stench. Internet
and fan in bathroom didn't work, nor did many of the electrical sockets. Large
chunk of the toilet was missing. Fire alarms and smoke detectors are wired on
the outside of the walls. This was the worst hotel I've ever seen, including
some Third World places. Do yourself a favor--no discount rate is worth your
self respect.

The rooms are like little apartments, with a kitchenette and living room. There
is a fridge and microwave, so you can bring home left overs from some of the
great restaurants in the area, or buy fresh bread and fruit from the market just
down the street.

Kitchen We stayed at the Tropicana for 3 nights . It was easy to find on Robson
St (despite the road work being done further up Robson). It is walking distance
to Stanley Park, and what's even better, you can rent bikes at a shop near the
park and take in the whole park on bicycles. There is a lot of sidewalk shopping
just down the street, and a shopping mall about 6 or 7 blocks down.

We were able to check right and get our room key to suite 1001- the first suite
on the 10th floor. This faced Robson St which was a blessing and a curse- as I
will explain. You enter into a hallway and on the left is a small bathroom and
bedroom and to the right, a living room and kitchen. It's a smallish apartment
and perfect for 2 people, or a family, for an extended stay. There is a
precariously small balcony facing Robson that we barely dared to step out on (it
was only about 2 feet deep) but the views were great- you could see all the way
to Stanley Park and the mountains beyond.

We had a decent stay, nothing spectacular. The rooms could do with an overhaul
of paint and carpet and furniture for sure. It's not for the fussy or picky but
completely fine and functional if you go into it knowing that Vancouver is an
expensive city and for $129 (CAD) we got a bargain.
Like other previous reviewers we really liked the location. I booked the hotel
through www.allure-hotels.com

We just got back from a five night stay at the Tropicana in lovely Vancouver.
You cannot beat the location of this hotel. Close to everything, no need for
taxis. Right on gorgeous Robson Street where you'd normally spend double the
price on the fancy hotels. Granted this is just a Motor Hotel, so it's not
fancy. If you're fussy, go spend double down the street. This is our third time
back to the Tropicana and it won't be the last!

Bang for your buck
This hotel is showing its’ age. But you can’t beat the value. The
location was spot on and the room was comfortable. While the carpets
were worn, the room was clean and quiet. We were satisfied with our
choice.

Good value, convenient for families.
The Tropicana isn’t fancy but it was super convenient, clean, had free
parking, and the staff were really helpful and polite. It was nice to
have a suite (we were there with the kids). The room smelled a bit smoky
and the sofa bed was really really uncomfortable but hey, the kids
didn’t care! We had a nice view. I would stay there again.

Great location, spartan living
OK hotel, central location. Old, and showing it (e.g. paint peeling from
ceiling in bathroom, paper wedges needed in window frames to keep them
from rattling in the wind). I was desperate, given that I was told to be
at the Olympics with only 3 weeks notice, so most hotels were booked.
Given that, it was comfortable and clean. Price was high, but reasonable
for the circumstances. Staff was friendly and helpful.

I have been to Vancouver, British Columbia, a few times. The City is a
very big city, and it is always better to stay at a place close and
convenient to travel around to places one needs to.
I was there once on a business trip, and hence wanted to stay at a hotel
close to the business district, and also close to the area where there
were nice restaurants for having lunches and dinners. Searching for a
suitable place, I decided to stay at the Tropicana Suite Hotel, right in
the downtown core. The staff was very friendly and hospitable, making
sure that the guests were satisfied and comfortable. The front desk
service was there 24 hours too

That was a perfect choice for us. Tropicana Suite Hotel was located
right in the heart of the City within walking distances to the business
centers where I had my appointments to attend to. Many excellent
restaurants and shopping centers were also close by.
I had a suite on a high level, with an astonishing view of the
waterfront and the beautiful mountains. The suite was adequately
furnished, had a double bed, a large comfortably furnished living room,
and a kitchenette complete with the utensils.
