We stayed here because we were doing the Vancouver marathon and needed a cheap
place to stay for the night. It was very close to the starting line, which
worked out well for us, but very far from the downtown, which is a bummer if
this is your first trip to Vancouver. Since we live in Seattle, we didn't care
about that. The hotels staff was very nice, allowed us to check in early and
leave late, so we could recover from the race. The rooms are old, but we had a
nice view of the mountains and a comfortable bed. Nothing amazing, but nothing
horrible. Parking is expensive, especially for location being so far from
downtown. Would not recommend this hotel if you want to be downtown or dont have
a car to get around city. Otherwise, its average but safe and clean.

I booked this hotel for a friend and myself. We were going to see Madonna at BC
Place. The front desk staff were very very helpful, friendly, and courteous. We
inquired about transportation and the lady gave us some great information,
including the bus route that we jumped on right across the street. The route
went right down to the stadium, and also went up Granville st. Once we first got
to our room, there was a plate of warm cookies and a thank you. Upon
investigation of the room, we were excited to see we had a great view and a
beautiful balcony. The beds were very comfortable, and there was plenty of room
for all of our stuff to be spread out!

Apart from not giving us the room we asked for (instead of 2 doubles we got a
king and a pull out) everything was functional and in a good order. The staff we
helpful and friendly. The room is nice and big, and clean. The location is good
as well. I have found this Hotel to be nicer than a lot of Hotels that cost
more, and have much, much smaller rooms. We had a $10 voucher for breakfast and
found the staff in the dining room to be very friendly.
For the best noodles in Vancouver go to Shalin Noodle house on Broadway just a
few blocks from the hotel.

The staff was great! The room was nice and big, and clean but some what
outdated. The bed was not comfortable. The bed was really hard and that is not
what I am use to. Needless to say I did not sleep. The windows need to be redone
because you could feel the outside temperature (freezing) 3 feet from the window
and thus you could also hear the road noise and construction going on outside. .
The location is good as well. I have found this Hotel to be nicer than a lot of
Hotels that cost more, and have much, much smaller rooms.

The hotel itself was nice and comfortable. The restaurant & bar attached were
nice but high in price. Other than that, we were very satisfied with our stay.
For not being at Downtown, is well located with fast & easy transportation.

I got a great deal on this hotel by booking through Expedia (I found out later
that it was around US$150 more per night to book directly with the hotel). I
also received a coupon for breakfast! I didn’t realize that the room came with a
balcony and a view of the entire city- it was a pleasant surprise! The room had
all the comforts one would expect and was very spacious. The housekeeping and
front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. My one complaint is that the
restaurant was a bit pricy. I recieved a $10 gift certificate for breakfast each
day, and that was enough to cover one item, not including coffee, tea, tax or
tip. $3 for a regular coffee that is the same quality as the complimentary cup I
can make in my room. There are other restaruants in the area that are much more
reasonable.

View of downtown was great. There was four of us in the room, one adult and
three children. Only three bath towels provided even after requesting four. No
ice machine available. No daily paper outside room and bare minimum of service.
Basically little character but reasonable price. My children were disappointed
at my choice.

This was convenient for our family gathering nearby, but as pointed out, not
that convenient for doing things downtown. We managed fine with taxis (because
there were 4 of us it was often cheaper than the bus to get downtown).
Hotel restaurant was closed for renovation- no notice of that till we got there-
somewhat annoying.
Front desk staff was very mixed- generally pleasant but some had no clue about
anything (and almost sent us off to the totally wrong location for a theater
performance). Others were friendly and well informed.
Room was smallish, and bathroom was tiny. Minimalist in the amenities (shampoo
and soap). Beds and bedding were fine. Carpeting was a bit tired.
Note- there is a Safeway in the City Square across the road, along with a fruit
market and a Starbucks. Once we had the fridge, that was a better option than
going to the White Spot on Canbie. Hotel breakfast option was expensive.

Needed to stay here on business to Vancouver in December 2008. I had never been
to Canada before. The hotel was located conveniently for me, but for those
visiting Vancouver, this place is south of Downtown, so you need to take the 15
bus or a taxi in. Alternatively, its about a 30-45 minute walk.
I arrived needing change for my taxi, which the front desk could not help me
with. As with most countries, people do not take $100 bills, sigh. Checkin was
efficient.
I stayed on level 6 in a King room. The room smelt strangely like smoke. The
property is supposedly completely non smoking though. Odd. The room was very
big, great bed. Bathroom small but acceptable. TV small with lots of weird and
wonderful north american channels. Only one ceiling mounted light fixture. Wifi
not included in the tariff.
Breakfast was included in the tariff. Figmint restaurant. Very nice ambience but
expensive. $12 for bacon and eggs. Plus taxes and tips.
The hotel served my purposes.

Booked this one for a last minute stay on Priceline. I live locally but
preferred to have a hotel closer to downtown for convenience sake. Paid about
$85 plus tax and a HUGE $20 parking fee (I think it was $20). Rooms are basic,
reasonably clean, but some areas of the hotel need a make over. This is a hotel
where airlines typically send their flight crews for lay overs. The location
isn't great-you need to take a cab to get downtown, but if the price is low, it
is basic hotel accommodations.
I was awoken at 3 am from a local resident's car alarm, but this is not the
hotel's fault.
Would only stay here if the price was right.

Got a rate of $129 per night through Priceline. I may have over paid. This hotel
is in need of a makeover. The lobby is nice and, overall, the staff is
pleasant....but, the room we had was a DUMP! It's too far out and you'll need a
taxi to downtown Vancouver and Granville Island. I would not recommend this
hotel. It didn't feel clean. The curtains in our room were torn, the shower
curtain mildewed, the carpet so gross we would not take off our shoes and socks.
This place needs work!

We booked a one night stay via Priceline at a 3 star hotel in Vancouver and our
bid was accepted by the Plaza 500 Hotel. The staff was friendly, but the
facility was very dated, not my idea of 3 stars. The halls were narrow and maze
like, twisting and turning, tiny elevators and really hard beds with a very loud
air/heater unit we could not figure out how to turn off. In the morning we were
surprised with a bill for $20 for parking ourselves in their basement garage.
There was no mention at check-in nor did I see anything on their web site
alerting you to that charge. So beware your bargain might not be that great of a
deal.
