In the past I have always loved staying at the Loden - but had
only done so for pleasure. Recently I had a business trip that
required hosting a small number of people in my suite. Not only
was the suite immaculate and the configuration perfectly suited
for my meeting, but the staff went out of their way to ensure
that everything ran smoothly. From arriving at the front desk to
an extremely helpful welcome, freshly baked cookies for my
guests, facilitating their accessing the floor to meet me, the
Loden staff went above and beyond. I usually stay at Fairmont
properties for business, but when in Vancouver the Loden will be
my first and only choice from now on!

All in all, this is a upscale boutique hotel that impresses. For
the average traveller, I would say this hotel is excellent! I
preface my review this way because I noticed many of the guests
at the Loden were dressed to the nines and of better means,
clearly here for business and luxury. If one is used to the
glitz and pampering of a fancier hotel, I can understand a lower
rating given the price of this hotel. However for me, this hotel
is a 5 star.
ROOMS: I stayed in a signature room (the most basic) and I was
extremely happy. Right off the bat, you see a contemporary style
room - the way I'd imagine a home to look after a trendy
designer has been through with it. (Of note, I am not partial to
the ornate guilded styles of more traditional hotels.) The rooms
have earthy neutral tones, tall ceilings, sliding walls between
the bathroom and bedroom, and all the trendiest fixtures
(beautiful sinks, geometric taps and knobs, flat screen TV).
There was both a soaking tub and a standup shower with hot water
and great pressure. We had no problems jumping into bed and
resting comfortably after a full busy day.
SERVICE: My husband and I were meeting up at the hotel after
travelling separately. I paced anxiously for over an hour by the
front door. In that time, I watched the doorman warmly greet
guests and help them out of taxi, and helpfully answering
questions. Likewise were the reception and restaurant staff.
Internet was $10-12/day, so we only paid for a day to get all
our travel arrangements in order. I was surprised because rarely
do hotels not provide internet!
LOCATION: Fabulous location, right near the waterfront and 4
blocks north of Robson street (5 min walk, not even). Finding
food, shopping and spa treatments was EASY! Note: We are walkers
- but we walked to Granville, out to Yaletown and Stanley park
with no problem (okay fine, we were a little tired). The Burrard
Skytrain station was closeby (5 minutes east), so that is
convenient as well. Getting to the airport was also easy. We
could have taken Burrard to Granville and switch trains, but we
walked directly to the Vancouver City Centre station to get on
the Canada Line with our luggage - it took about 15 minutes.
I would return to the Loden definitely. It's out of my price
range, but I would not hesitate for a special event!

Loden Hotel was certainly an excellent choice for a surprise
getaway, as my boyfriend spent countless hours of research
before deciding on this particular hotel. The hotel is situated
in the heart of downtown Vancouver, though the entrance of the
hotel seems to blend seamlessly with the residential
architecture. This was an extremely charming attribute of Loden
Hotel; it is within close proximity to spectacular entertainment
and shopping areas (such as Scotiabank Theatre, Robson Street
and Pacific Centre), but the hotel is also private enough that
upon first glance, it would not occur to you that this is
indeed, a luxury hotel. When we arrived, a Valet attended to our
vehicle. As I walked through the heavy double doors of the
entrance, I was greeted by the front desk staff, who were
informed beforehand that our stay was a birthday celebratory
event. The staff were friendly and cordial, and helped with
reservations at their restaurant, the Tableau Bar + Bistro. The
Valet Attendant came by our room to bring up a cellphone that my
boyfriend had left in the car. There were several personal
touches that made our stay an incredible experience; the
television welcome screen had our names on the front screen, and
a postcard denoting a welcome message and birthday wishes
awaited us on the vanity desk. The hotel decor was a clean,
modern zen feel with dark finished wood, patterned carpeting, a
lounge sofa, and a contemporary bathroom, though unfortunately
the bathtub was not large enough to fit two comfortably. We
checked-in at the Loden rather late, and spent the rest of the
evening enjoying the room and its amenities. After a lovely
dinner at the tableau, we headed back up to our room and fell
into a peaceful slumber beneath the down duvets. In the morning,
I was surprised at how well rested I was, considering the
location of the hotel. I then realized that besides the
occasional footsteps outside, there were no noise from the
streets. A little bit past lunch, we checked out of the hotel
and a staff member from the front desk left his post to bring up
our vehicle. I was greeted with more birthday wishes, and when
we opened the car door, two bottles of water for us were sitting
in the passenger seat.

Normally I do not write reviews, but I had to give a shout out
to the wonderful staff of The Loden Hotel. It is great hotel
with great service. Everyone was very helpful and made us feel
at home. The location is central on a quiet street. The hotel is
hip but not pretentious. The rooms are comfortable and modern.
Great gym facilities. The hotel's restaurant, Le tableu, was an
added bonus offering a great ambience and excellent food. The
bartenders are true mixologists and it was fun to watch them
prepare drinks. Truly a gem. I highly recommend this place.

I loved my stay at the Loden. The room was clean, the bed was
super comfortable and the service was really efficient and
friendly. I liked the warm wood paneling in the room and the
bathroom was fantastic. My only beef was that the continental
breakfast is a bit of a rip off. I had a bowl of oatmeal and
that was it because I was in a hurry and it cost me $18. Tip:
Eat at the Urban Fare just around the corner.

Loved our hotel room, classy modern decor, and really spacious
room, the only downside was that the king size bed was a little
firm for my liking, other than that the room was spectacular.
The staff was so accommodating you are treated like gold from
the moment you walk in till the moment you check out, and even
after! i Felt like i had just stayed with good friends, would
highly recommend them to any traveller.

I could rave about the Loden for pages!
We stayed at the Loden for just two nights (wish it could have
been more) in September. We arrived off a cruise and caught a
taxi to the hotel. We arrived well before check in time but a
room was available and we were able to check in around 10 am on
a Sunday morning. If only the weather had been as lovely as the
hotel.....
Loved the room! We got a corner room on a higher floor with
floor to ceiling windows which made the room feel larger than it
was. Good sized bathroom with everything you could need.
Great location - not a lot immediately in the vicinity but just
five minutes walk to Robson Street.
The hotel staff could not have been more friendly or helpful.
Upon check-in we were given a great overview of the city and
recommendations for places to eat and visit. We wanted to go to
the Capilano Suspension Bridge and the desk clerk helped us with
that.
The hotel has complimentary bicycles so we booked them one
morning and rode around Stanley Park in the rain.
If you like boutique hotels with a great vibe then I would
highly recommend the Loden. One of my favorite hotels. |
