We stayed at the Listel for just a couple of nights. The staff were friendly and polite, and the room was smart and a decent size. It was nothing special, but the Hotel Location was good - walking distance to downtown, Gastown, and Stanley Park. We didn't try the restaurant as we didn't see many vegetarian options on the menu, but it looked smart/"comfortable" and not too pricey.

My friend and I booked this hotel after reading relatively good reviews. We were not disappointed. Bearing in mind that we are both hygiene freaks, we were both pleasantly surprised to find that the room and bathroom were very clean, and spacious. However, what sets this hotel apart from its peers is the fantastic customer service.
The staff always went out of their way to help us, whether it be with directions, tours, or even tips on good night spots. Jesse and Sebastian were particularly nice and always on hand to help when needed.
Also, the hotel is in an ideal Hotel Location, right on Robson Street, five minutes from Stanley Park (rent a bike, it's amazing), and within walking distance from anywhere in downtown Van.
We had a really good experience there, and would definitely recommend it.
If you want good value for money, and an overall great experience, the Listel is a perfect choice.

I am quite ambivalent about the Listel after staying there for 3 nights in May.
The hotel is in a great Hotel Location - right on Robson Street and easy walking to all the sites. Having said that Vancouver is an easy city to walk around and any centrally located hotel will give you a good base. The on-site restaurant and bar O'Douls served excellent food , and the staff were really knowledgeable and helpful with wine selections.
However, the room was average. Whilst the hotel attempts to project a groovy ambience, this is not really reflected in the room decor, which is tired, with a very old TV . As others have commented, the bathrooms are small - in fact ours was tiny - you could stretch out your arms and easily touch the walls. It was so tiny, the sink/basin wasnt even in the bathroom , but in the room, just inside the door as you walk in.
The 'Art Hotel' moniker was also a puzzle. Our room (on the gallery floor) did have 3 lovely pictures but there was no information at all about the artist in the room. When I asked at the desk, I was told that the plaque with the artist information must have fallen off, and the front desk could not give me any information about the artist. The corridors on our floor were also completely devoid of any art, other than a display at the lift.
Whilst the Listel tries to position itself as a boutique hotel, it really isn't up to that standard. Overall, I was disappointed with the Listel and would stay elsewhere next time I visit Vancouver.

We stayed here for 2 nights a couple of weeks ago and found it to be a nice twist on the usual big city hotel.

As other reviewers have mentioned the art dotted around the hotel adds to it's feel and the staff was always very friendly and helpful, particularly the valet parking staff.

We had a few drinks in O'Douls downstairs and again the staff were always friendly and chatty.

The Hotel Location is great and within easy walking distance of the Pacific Centre, Canada Place and Gastown. The only drawback was that we were constantly accosted by beggars upon leaving the hotel - which isn't the hotels fault ! - but it was a little offputting. I have visited Vancouver many times and this was the first time I'd seen such a large homeless population on Robson Street and it became a little awkward every time we left the hotel. As I said this isn't the hotels fault but perhaps visitors with small children might be a bit put off as some of these characters were quite intimidating.

Upon arrival at the Reception area we were greeted with happy and professional staff who were helpful with any queries we had. The hotel itself is in an absolutely perfect Hotel Location in the heart of the shopping and restaurant area of Vancouver. The rooms were a good size especially considering there were 4 of us in 2 queen beds we were very comfortable. The restaurant was fantastic and affordable. Everything about this hotel was fabulous. I'd stay here again for sure!

This review is a little late - I stayed for my honeymoon last August for a week & absolutely fell in love with the Listel! Perfect Hotel Location for walking all over & right near the Hop On Hop Off Tour bus, which was great for us. Bed was comfortable, bathrooms great & we had a nice high view. Everyone working there was courteous & helpful. We especially looooved the food at O'Douls. We had a bed & breakfast deal at Listel & enjoyed breakfast everyday as well as 2 dinners while listening to live jazz.

Loved the "artsy" feel of the hotel. We have recommended it to several people who are going to Vancouver this year & I know we'll be back there very soon. Thanks Listel! Maybe we'll see you on our 1 year anniversary!

Visited Vancouver for two (sunny!) days mid-February 2008. The airport shuttle ($13) dropped me at the front entrance of the hotel. The room overlooked Robson Street and all the pre-Olympics construction in the area. Everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, the pillows fluffy and there were a few extras that made the stay very enjoyable. We were invited to a wine reception the first night of our stay which was a nice perk and met some interesting guests there. There is an internet kiosk just off the front desk as well as wireless access. The hotel is right in the middle of Robson Street which made it very convenient to do some shopping (and eating) in the area. Granville Island (what a great public market!) was quite convenient as was the skytrain station, each several blocks away but still in walking distance. The staff were all eager to help with directions and maps. I would definitely recommend the Listel if you want to be on Robson.

Stayed here for one night following a concert at GM Place. Upon check-in, we noticed we had accidentally booked dbl beds and asked if we could have a king room instead. The man at the front desk seemed to be annoyed at this simple request and gave a rather curt "NO" and went on with the check-in process, no explanation and no further acknowledgment of the request. It's not a big deal, but I felt like he was belittling us. Mind you, it was after midnight and we had just walked from GM Place in the pouring rain so we were looking somewhat bedraggled. Next we asked about late night eating in the area, and he proceeds to tell us about a pizza place across the street that would be fine as long as we didn't have any meat. What??? I think we'll pass. Exhausted, we entered the room and were hit with a wave of heat, tried to adjust the air con which didn't want to work. It was already quite late, and judging by our earlier encounter at the front desk, we decided to just sleep with the window open. This was fine until the early morning when the gulls came around the garbage dumpster in the alley below us and started squawking. Oh well...
Other than the heating problem, the room itself was pretty typical in an unmemorable way. We opted for a standard room as we were only there to sleep. The TV was something out of the 70's but it was fine for the morning news. We couldn't find a remote which was annoying. My initial reaction was that the mattress was like a brick but we slept fine on it.
Overall, it's an ok hotel but as the saying goes, you can never get a second chance to make a first impression. Based on ours, we won't be back.

Judging by some of the reviews in Trip Advisor the Listel was enjoyed by many but panned by some regarding the quality of the bathrooms. We were prepared to see a few faults, but when we walked into our room, the bath and room were in top notch condition!

Overall, the hotel was terrific. Nice rooms, decent bed (although with seemingly polyester sheets), great Hotel Location, helpful staff, all the things one could want. A special applause for the recycling basket in our room, which my wife and I have never seen on our frequent travels.

We would definitely stay there again.

My girlfriend and I (both on our 30's) stayed there twice last summer. Its a great Hotel Location walking distance from loads of places to see and eat. Helpfull staff and although a bit more pricey than some of the other hotels in the area worth the money.
