These Vancouver Hotel reviews are the subjective opinion of a Guest and not of Allure Hotels any
concerns or request can be made at time of booking either on-line or on the
phone. May 30, 2008
I've stayed at this hotel twice now; the first visit was a few years ago and the
room we got was amazing, with great views of False Creek and the water. Service
seemed fine enough then, although we had no reason to really deal with them. The
second time I stayed there was a marked contrast -- so much so that I'm not sure
I want to stay there again. We requested a king, but were booked into a room
with two double beds, overlooking a boardwalk so we couldn't open our curtains.
When we saw a couple check out, we asked if we could be switched to their room
instead (we were just there for one night) and were told the same "sorry, we are
fully booked." I don't quibble with hotel management since I'm sure they have
reasons for doing things the way they do, but I don't like being lied to. Some
kind of simple explanation would have satisfied us instead of a template
response. When we were leaving to go the airport, we asked for a cab, to be met
with the response, "oh, there are always cabs outside." After waiting 10 minutes
outside to no avail, we decided to hoof it to the nearby cab stand. Amazing that
the hotel staff couldn't even be bothered to call for a cab on a quiet early
Saturday morning. When we stored our bags in the hotel's baggage area, one of
the bags' handles was damaged when it was returned to us. After the annoyance of
being treated rather shabbily we decided to forego complaining, cut our losses
and learn from this experience. What a shame. Fortunately, Granville Island and
Vancouver as usual did not disappoint.

The room was so tiny we could hardly fit in it. No carpet on the floor, hardly
any outlets and the bathroom was too small. We requested a larger room, since we
were a group of three, previously booked and wanting an adequate room. We were
told none were available. The room was small and dark and old. In no way was
this a three star hotel. We left that night for a better place.

This was a nice little hotel on Grandville Island. Convenient for shopping on
the island. Be srue to plan time to spend there. The market there is nice, cute
shops, and good resturants. Central enough that driving to downtown, other
touristy areas or the airport wasn't too far.
The hotel itself is a bit hard to find on the island. Once you find it and walk
in, the inside is nice. It use to be a brewery so you see it as you walk toward
your room. Kind of neat actually. The lobby is nice and clean with the rich dark
red wood... The room itself is decent but nothing great. Furniture kind of dated
and getting old. Same with the bathroom. We had a nice view from the balcony
which has 2 chairs for you to sit on. Bed was comfortable enough.
Service was very good. We knew before arriving that we had to leave a day early
and they were very understanding and helpful in helping us try to confirm our
partial refund with www.hotel.ca and confirmed that it's ok with hotel policy.
The manager was even willing to speak with them if necessarily and luckily so
because they did want to speak to him to confirm it.
Didn't choose to eat breakfast there so not sure about that. Too many places on
the isalnd to try. Overall a nice hotel but possibly overpriced considering the
condition of the room was only ok. Pretty much paying for Hotel Location. It was a
nice little place and recommendable if you have the money to spend.

We asked for one night, but after having a fantasticevening and night in a
splendid room we wanted to extend our stay with one extra night. This caused a
lot of problems.. We had to leave the room, but they would probably find another
room for us. This took ages, we had to return to the hotel a few times and at
the end found out there was no room. After a long conversation we could get some
sort of spare room. This was a strange room directly next to some sort of
congress room.
The prices were ok, the first night splendid. Help at front desk not good en
second night not so good. Overall average, what simpley could have been
Excellent.

We last stayed here 4 years ago and really loved the Hotel Location. It's near enough
to the city yet has a different feel - probably because the Island is a working
place, not just a tourist trap. The market itself is so interesting and the food
is wonderful. It's also great to see the students at the Emily Carr Institute.
The hotel is really nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. We had to
change our itinerary beforehand, so could only have a standard room for the
first night and then a king suite for the following 2 nights. The standard room
was very good, on the ground floor overlooking the patio area, and we would have
happily stayed there if the king suite had been unavailable. However, we really
wanted a room on the 2nd floor with a view over False creek, so changed on night
2.
Our only real disappontment was when we walked around Gastown, which really
seems to have got shabby since our last visit. There are far more people begging
and the whole area is in need of some upgrading. For old times sake, we even had
lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory, but the food wasn't very good, so we decided
to give the city a miss and pootle around the Island instead . |
