This was a great, cheap hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms
were clean. We stayed in one of the Courtyard rooms because they were cheaper
($79 for a double), and like other people have said, you access it from the back
alley. But this was perfectly fine and not "dodgy" at all. People have said that
this is a bad neighbourhood, with street people, porn shops, etc. All of this is
true, but I lived in Vancouver for four years, and would not ever say that this
is a bad neighbourhood and have never felt threatened. This is a very central
Hotel Location, just a short walk to Yaletown and Robson Street. With the Howard
Johnson up the street and the Ramada Inn just down the street, you can't go with
this inexpensive option.Jan 30, 2008
I stayed at this hotel in January for a business trip. While I was a little
concerned regarding the hotel based on other online reviews, I found that the
stay was uneventful. The rooms were clean, the service friendly, and the
Hotel Location great. It is located on popular Granville street, a short walk from
Yale Town which worked very well for my meetings. One has to expect that when
you are staying in the heart of the city - and the entertainment district that
the calibre of street life outside the front door is not the same as a suburban
neighbourhood. However, the people on the street were friendly, and no-one
bothered me at all. The rest of the downtown hotels that I looked at (Comfort
Inn, Ramada, Hojo, Holiday Inn) are all located in the same area and have the
same issues. However, the BW is a full service hotel offering a second floor
restaurant with a pleasant view, high speed internet, and free passes to Fitness
World across the street (which I really enjoyed - it had a much better facility
than any hotel gym I have experienced.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay, and will stay here again on my next trip to
Vancouver.

Read the reveiws here and on another travel site. It seemed like the only
compaint that permeated the majority of the reviews I read was the Hotel Location-
across from a couple of adult book stores. Well, that's true, but you know that
going in. Also- you are staying on Granville Street, lots of bars, clubs, etc,
so some "bad elements" are to be expected. We stayed in the towers, a room on
the top floor with a balcony view overlooking Granville Street. We could also
see the mountains in the distance (when it wasn't so cloudy). The staff at the
hotel was great, very helpful. They even had a concierge/guest services rep on
duty to help you with anything from finding a store to picking a restaurant to
booking a tour. I never expected THAT from a Best Western. The lobby was fine,
rooms were very clean, decor was hotel-typical. If we decide to stay on
Granville our next visit, we would definitely stay at the Chateau Granville.

Front Desk staff was helpful, the room was clean and a good size. It has a great
Hotel Location, convenient to everywhere!
Will definitely recommend this hotel to other people.

I dont normally feel compelled to write reviews, but felt I needed to warn
people about this hotel.
1) incorrect room alHotel Location double instead of twin, which took one hell of a
row to change.
2) Very dodgy "courtyard" room accessed through an even more dodgy back alley.
3) 1 of the worst neighborhoods I have ever passed through.
Its the 1st time in my life I have just walked out of a hotel after paying, it
really was that bad.
Do yourself a big big favour stay elsewhere you'll be grateful you did

Stayed there for work because of free access to fitness world. Hotel was noisy,
dingy and in a terrible neighborhood. Little or no sleep due to street noise.
Staff was rude and unhelpful. I travel a lot for work and will not be staying
there again. These Vancouver Hotel reviews are the subjective opinion of a Guest and not of Allure Hotels any
concerns or request can be made at time of booking either on-line or on the
phone. |
