Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver Guest Review

I had booked an online reservation for an overnight stay at the Sutton
Place Hotel in Vancouver for our wedding anniversary. Imagine our
surprise and dismay upon arrival to discover that I had booked the wrong
date!
We were initially told we could not get the online rate for the same
room (was substantially more) so passed on the offer, but hotel staff
were most gracious and accommodating and offered us an upgrade to a
better room, as well as free parking and Chocoholic Buffet so in the
end, our stay cost the same as we'd anticipated, with the added benefit
of a beautiful, upgraded room. We also were not charged for our botched
reservation/no show the weekend before!
Kudos to the Sutton Place Hotel staff for making what could have been a
regretful mistake into a wonderful hotel experience, from the valet who
parked our vehicle to the front desk manager who resolved our issue and
left a message on our hotel room phone to make sure we were happy. Quite
simply, their service is exceptional!!!

Hotel staff were very friendly for our entire stay. The concierge
service was also very helpful. The location on the hotel was great as we
were within walking distance to all of the area attractions but didn't
have to pay the prices of staying right near-by. There was also a
grocery store one block up which was great to just grab a quick bite or
beverage before heading out for the day.

We liked our rooms, the dining room for both lunch and breakfast, and
room service. The staff was friendly and efficient. This is a great
hotel for a brief visit to Vancouver. You will feel in the middle of
things here.

Transportation from airport: We took a taxi and it was pretty quick and
easy. Cost was about 35$ CAN.
Lobby/Check-in: Nice, clean lobby. Check-in was super easy and staff was
courteous. We arrived around 11am and we were lucky, our room was
available and we had an early check-in at no extra cost. Very friendly
concierge brought the luggage up to our room and gave us a ton of advice
on things to do in the area. No pressure for us to give him tip, we
actually had to chase him to give it to him!
Room: Spacious. Not sure if it's really a 5* though (as said on
Hotwire), I think I'd say a 4 1/2*. Very comfy king size bed with thick
comforter and very comfortable pillows! Huge windows with a great view,
I enjoyed sitting on the side on the window and just looking down in the
city. Bathroom was clean and nice. Shower head was disappointing...the
water came out in all directions! TV was also little disappointing, we
were expecting a flat screen TV but it wasn't. Several channels to
choose from though. Oh and the bathrobes...COMFY!
Workout room: Disappointing. SO very small! I would expect something
much bigger for a 4 1/2* hotel. The 3 treadmills were nice though, high
quality. Disappointing spinning bike (only 1). Could of been better
overall!
District: PERFECT! SO close to so many stores and restaurants. 5 minute
walk from Robson street. Japadog stand right next to the hotel. Designer
stores, Lululemon, Little Burgundy, Nike store, etc etc...perfect when
you want to take a break from crazy visiting and just want to walk
around and enjoy the area. Many many restaurants to choose from. My
favorite was Guu Original, you have to check it out! It's an izakaya,
food was great and ambiance was amazing...a 10 minute walk from the
hotel. Also go to Aki, it felt like we were eating in Japan. About a 25
minute walk to Stanley Park.
I recommend this hotel to anyone, I would definitely go back (even
though I didn't like the gym!)!

We found the staff amiable and helpful. The rooms were very clean and
the bed comfortable. The hotel is a few decades old, built in an era
when hotels were built as modern tall buildings but decorated to look
like classical lodges. It is tasteful. I don't think it is fair to
charge for wireless interest, as they do. |
