Review of the Sunset Inn and Suites Vancouver

There is nothing fancy about this property but the bed was as
comfortable as any in a higher end hotel. The windows open and the linen
is good quality, all contributing to a better than usual hotel sleep.
Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The only thing to watch for is
the room smoke alarm. A slightly over toasted bagel resulted in the
loudest smoke alarm ever, which hotel staff think is the way they want
it, but it took hours before my hearing returned to normal. Recommending
this to anyone.

I have stayed here before and it didn't disappoint. Last time I stayed
in a beautiful one bedroom suite complete with fireplace. This time I
stayed in a studio since I was on Govt business. The staff tried to talk
me out of it since the 1 bdr are nicer, but for $80 I got a huge bedroom
with a king sized bed, a balcony, a full sized kitchen and bath, two
hall closets, free parking, internet (that worked) and breakfast in
downtown Vancouver. There is no better deal! There are so many great
restaurants on Davie. There is even a 24 hr drug store and grocery store
one block up Davie. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The suites
look brand new with hardwood laminate. I'm worried this "best kept
secret" will get out. That reminds me, its very difficult to find this
place. Walk NE up Burnaby just off Thurlow. You dont see the small sign
until you are right at it.

Sunset Inn offers a good value for the money with its good location,
free parking, and free continental breakfast. The rooms are spacious
with a fully stocked kitchen if you choose to cook. The hotel is within
walking distance to many restaurants, Stanley Park, Sunset beach and the
mini ferry to Granville Island. We never had to use our car which was
good because the parking area, although free, is tight and limited. We
found the staff at the front desk to be very friendly and helpful in
giving directions and restaurant suggestions.

This hotel is located in Davie Village with lots of places to eat in the
immediate vicinity and is within walking distance of all of the sights
in downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park. The room we stayed in (303) was
of generous size with a king bed and reasonable cooking facilities (we
didn't cook) and the complimentary breakfast is very adequate. All of
the staff at the front desk were excedingly helpful with advice and went
out of their way to assist us.

This hotel is a hidden gem. By that I mean that it is not what you
expect when you pull up out the front. It just looks like any other
small place with nothing to out of the ordinary to be expected. But in
fact it is a very good stay. We were returning from a 7 day cruise and
we needed a place with a laundry. This hotel was the only one we could
find that provided a laundry so we booked it not expecting too much, but
it had a laundry, so that's what we needed., To our surprise the room
was spacious, the furniture was relatively new and the whole suite was
well fitted out. There was a full kitchen, with a full size fridge,
stove, microwave and sink. The staff on the desk were very pleasant and
helpful. The hotel is situated less that 2 mins walk from Davies street,
which is a lively and varied shopping street and only about 5-10 mins
walk to Robson Street, another shopping area. We also needed to pick up
a hire car from Hertz, and again this was only about 5 Mins walk away.
If you need to go to the Downtown area, that would be 10 -15 minute walk
away. So if you are needing a stay in Vancouver, I would recommend this
hotel for a short or a longer stay. A little noisy if you stay in a back
room, because of the hospital nearby, but it was not a bother really. |
