Review of the Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver

This hotel covered all the basics and was in a great location for
getting out and about from. Staff were very helpful and even upgraded
our room when they found out we were on our honeymoon. The
restaurant/bar down stairs provided delicious meals. Rooms were clean
with basic amenities and were tidied every day & it was quiet even with
what looked like a few junior cheerleading troupes staying there!

I stayed here twice and i will definitely be back, It has an excellent
location i walked everywhere, the shark bar at the hotel was a favorite
great food great atmosphere all sports on the big screen just awesome!!
easy to get to for international travelers, from the airport catch the
train to Vancouver central, when you come out to the street walk 4 or 5
blocks to the right and you are there and only $7 fantastic.
The hotel staff were great and helped me out with everything i needed,
very very happy.

We stayed here one nite, checked in quickly, had a reservation for a
queen, and they said they were not too busy and moved us into a room
with a King. Clean room, everything worked. Asked to be placed away from
the nite club, so we were not bothered by the noise, no problem doing
so. Didn't order from the hotel restaurants, per prior reviews, but in
downtown Vancouver, there are plenty of other choices. I have stayed
here before, the pricing was good, and would not hesitate to stay here
again.

Stayed here 2 nights in September 2011. Room on 11th floor so not
disturbed by noise from the Shark Bar. Room poor - absolutely no drawer
space so couldn't unpack properly. Carpet was wet at side of one of the
beds (leak from bathroom) - obviously not checked by maid service.
Reported and offered a room change without question. Ate at Moxie's
restaurant both nights - food and drink and service fine. Hotel lifts
are supposed to be key card secured but they aren't. Only 2 lifts
available which are inadequate for the number of people in the hotel so
you had a long wait every time you wanted to use one. Work had been done
on our floor by contractors and the mess left not cleaned up. Some noise
from other hotel guest in the early hours. Hotel location is fine for
easy walking to main shopping areas. Wouldn't stay here again.

They use Moxies for room service. The food is great but the service
couldn't be worst. They don't know their menu, they forget half the
order when they deliver to the room, and they don't know how to answer
the phone and take the order properly: when ordering breakfast one day I
was on the phone for ten minutes and talked to four people to order just
3 items, as no one knew what the seasonal soup was and different people
kept coming back to the phone, they asked for the reservation name
twice, one lady was plain rude, and they even got the room number wrong.
This was the sloppiest room service answering system I have ever seen
and we stay at hotels very often for work functions. Food great, service
awful. I find it strange that Moxies doesn't train their employees on
how to answer the phone and take an order with care and respect. Worst
worst worst phone service ever.

Now the hotel. The reception area is beautiful but the rooms don't look
anything like that. The first room they gave us was gray and old
looking, the phone didn't work, there was no remote for the tv in the
bedroom, no racks for the suitcases, a big living room but not even one
coffee table there.
They gave us another suite which was better. Quiet and the bed is very
comfortable.
