Guest Reviews of the Plaza 500 Hotel in Vancouver

I had a three night stay in early May. The hotel is about two blocks
from a Canada Line skytrain station making it convenient to get to and
from the Vancouver airport and into town for meetings. There is a mall
across the street where travellers can pick up food or other items.
Check-in was quite easy and the staff were courteous. The room was large
but had a very small bathroom. The room was stuffy and hot when I first
entered, but I was able to cool it down once I opened the windows and
the door to the patio. I couldn't find air conditioning so, to keep the
room cool, I had to keep the windows open.

The room was comfortable but would have been nicer with queen bed. Was a
little shocked with all the extra charges so steep. $25 dollars a night
to park and $15 dollars for internet service??? I have never ever had to
pay for internet. Yes we agree it is in need of a thorough upgrade.

As you probably already know my husband and I did not get the room that
was booked. Our son was treating us with this stay and we learned that
he had booked a renovated room, with two beds... That is not what we
got. It was a nice view, however there were things that we had hoped for
to be different. Also the fact that we had to pay for high speed
internet service and for just using the phone... That seemed odd for me.
When renovations are done, I am sure I will recommend this hotel, since
our son too knows that the quality is great. Overall for now:
disappointed!

I travel to Vancouver at least annually & have always stayed at the
Plaza 500 because it is close to the Children's Hospital. After this
last visit, I have decided that I will try another hotel when I travel
back to Vancouver in July. The rooms, although large with a large
balcony and great views, are getting pretty worn. There was mold in the
corners of the bathroom, the carpets were stained, the bathroom fan was
loud and squelled (not sure if I had the same room the year previous but
that fan did the same thing!). In addition, parking is expensive at
$25/day, wi-fi is $15/day and the tv is very small (19" I think) ... the
Park Inn which is in the same vicinity is about the same price per
night, parking is only $11.50/day, they incl. free wi-fi & also have LCD
TVs, so I will likely stay there next time.

Great service, good location, but no frills hotel. Excellent dessert at
the restaurant and I think very good food too. Milk and Cookies were a
hit! Staff was amazing!

Plaza 500 met my expectations. Location was excellent, as I was visiting
with City of Vancouver department nearby. Nearby Canada Line transit
made access to YVR airport quicker that by taxi. Room was spacious,
although bathroom a bit small by current hotel standards. All the
amenities worked. Good view northward. It's been a while since I
encountered a hotel without free Internet access. Obtaining new ID
number daily was annoying. Colocated restaurant appeared to both open
and close for business during the 5 days I stayed at the Plaza 500.

Decided to try the Plaza 500 since they had a $99 special which offered
a $20 gift card to their in-house restaurant, Figmint. Ironically, when
I made the reservation, nobody told me this restaurant would be closed
for renovations during my stay, so unless I come back to the Hotel
again, the gift card is useless.
Staff were friendly, but this Hotel is really in need of a renovation.
Lobby was decent, but rooms were quite tired and worn looking. Older
furniture, bed was very low to the floor, carpet had rolls and bumps
throughout the room. I stayed here about 4 years ago, and thought the
rooms needed upgrading back then, and to date nothing has changed.
Quite honestly there is better value nearby, such as the Best Western
Uptown. Much newer Hotel, with rates $20 less than the Plaza 500.

The hotel was convenient as far as the location. The rooms are in dier
need of renovation.
You can't beat the price for a large Vancouver hotel room but I will not
be staying again. My primary complaint is the noise -- sirens from
ambulances on their way to nearby VGH, clunky ice machines, and loud
guests in the hallway. This is a hotel that would benefit from
soundproofing. It is looking quite shabby and in need of a reno but is
within the parameter of the current price point. The staff is friendly
and helpful they offer a terrific 1st class breakfast -- including a $10
credit from the hotel Great view of Vancouver Large rooms Convenient
location

We arrived a little past midnight and the person at the front desk was
anything but welcoming. Then he informed us that to park at the hotel
you would need to pay 20 dollars per night. Ouch. He said we could park
out on the street if we wanted to (funny since you have to have a
parking permit.) The parking garage smelled like old cheese. The room
was decent, I had gotten a good deal online so I was not too unhappy. It
just must of been the sharpy all over the bathroom walls and the
cigarette burns on the curtains in the non smoking room. And all of the
ice machines where down. Oh there was also a sign in the elevator that
said no outside food or drink?

Good value for the price. Very conveniently located. Not recommended for
those who want spend all the time inside room. Building needs
renovations but is still OK

My stay at Plaza 500 was really good. Staff members are always there to
help you out if you need anything. Rooms are very clean and food there
is excellent. I would defiantly recommend everyone for Plaza 500.
Shopping mall is pretty close and most of all the beautiful mountain
scenery. "Can’t wait to go back"

Unless you are getting a really good deal - don’t bother. Yes, the
location is great, the restaurant is very nice, staff are extremely
friendly and ready to help and the rooms are rather large. However, "new
renovated" means new bedspreads and the lobby looks fantastic. The rooms
smell of mold and mildew and are not well lit. Vending machines don’t
work and only one of two elevators work at a time so take forever.
