Guest Reviews of the Best Western Sands Hotel Vancouver

Vancouver is a very expensive city, and unfortunately not worth the price. This
Hotel cost us C$205 (Canadian Dollars approx same as US now) for one night. It
is in a great location, on Davie Street, near the beach and entrance to Stanley
Park and a very gay area. Its a safe location and has parking for an additional
C$18 charge, park on the street. There is no breakfast and breakfast at the
restaurant cost us C$40 for two people. The C$5.99 special advertized all over
the hotel is only M-F. We bit the bullet to find a safe place and close to the
gay bars, but we won't be going back to Vancouver ever. Seattle is a much better
value and more fun in terms of things to do in the day and gay nightlife.
Otherwise the room was clean and spacious (2 queen size beds). The bathroom was
older and the shower faucets were hard to operate and the hot water was not
steady. I expected more for C$200 hotel room. Remember Vancouver has a
ridiculous tourist tax.

We recently stayed at the Best Western Sands and as always had a clean, quiet
room. The beds are outfitted with new comfort top mattresses and the cleanest
bedding and duvets we have ever seen. Staff are friendly, helpful and pleasant.
We visit Vancouver several times a year and always stay at the Sands because of
the location, staff and great service. I love the little touches like umbrellas
and the newspaper.

We have stayed at this hotel many times because we love its central location at
English Beach and the view of the bay offered from some of the rooms. Also,
parking at this hotel is a great deal compared to many of the newer hotels over
by the convention centre. That being said, this hotel shows its age.
Soundproofing is non-existant, and the clunky balcony doors offered us no
protection from our neighbours who were ignoring the non-smoking rules and
lighting up night and day. The air flow sent most of their smoke through the
cracks in our patio doors and it was as if they were climbing into bed with us
to light up! The bed, however, was VERY comfortable, as good or better than the
"comfort beds" in more expensive hotels, and to be fair the front desk staff
wanted to help us with the smokers but couldn't without catching them
red-handed. If this hotel is still there the next time we visit Vancouver (can't
help thinking it's going to get torn down for condos one of these days!), we'll
stay there again, but we'll ask for a 4th floor ocean-view room, hopefully high
up enough to dull the roar of the bus stop below but not fitted with balconies
that encourage smokers to break the rules.

We stayed in Best Western Sands by the Sea twice - for one night at the end of
June before we started on our trip through British Columbia and for 3 nights at
the end of July when we returned from our trip.
We can highly recommend the hotel. It is only 3 minutes to the sea and Stanley
Park, there is a bus stop in front of the hotel so that you can easily go
anywhere you like.
The rooms are nice and clean, the beds are very comfortable. The staff is
extremely friendly, polite and helpful.
We can also recommend the restaurant. We had breakfast there every morning and
also dinner on the first night.
There is another restaurant (only a three-minute-walk) "The Boathouse, which one
should try.

The Sands is our favorite hotel in Vancouver. It has the best location on
English Bay and nice rooms with views of the ocean. The best part is the
staff...they are always so welcoming and we stay here because of them. It feels
like home! |
