Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver Guest Review

Overall my stay at the Sutton Place exceeded my expectations. The
central location, attentiveness of the staff, oversized room with a
great bed and bathroom plus the excellent breakfast buffet gave a
considerable boost the many delights of visiting a sunny Vancouver. A
little caveat though: the concierges should be a little more careful
when providing information concerning opening hours at various sights.

I've been staying at the Sutton Place for over 10 years. During that
time I've never had a bad stay. The hotel is immaculately clean, the
staff is extremely accommodating and the location on Burrard one block
from the Robson Street shops can't be beat.

It is central to all downtown activities and the staff are friendly, and
helpful. The restaurant is great with always a little chef's surprise.
We also enjoy the pool which has good hours for use. I have stayed with
friends and family and for business and never been disappointed.

For one of the swankiest hotels in Vancouver with a decent reputation my
stay at the Sutton was rather disappointing.
My husband booked a room online (hotwire) hoping to get one of
Vancouver's more interesting boutique hotels. When we got the Sutton, I
was hopeful it would be ok, as I had been going to the hotel's gym for
personal training sessions regularly and thought it was an ok hotel.
From the moment I checked it at the front desk, I felt we were not
treated like welcomed guests. The rather snooty front desk woman gave us
a room with twin beds. Obviously, this was not ideal for my husband and
I , and I said something immediately. The receptionist made a rather
passive aggressive comment about the site we used to book the room. She
changed it reluctantly.
After this unfriendly desk service, I was rather irritated. We went to
our room on the 6th floor. It was a decent room. It was clean, spacious
and basic. Our window looked right onto Nelson st behind the hotel on to
some apartments and the fire hall. The room was adequate, but felt old
and boring in decor.
We had a decent sleep on the hard mattress. We woke to enjoy our
breakfast in bed. The man who served it was kind and courteous . The
breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. It cost something
like $22 per person. It was delicious but felt it was also expensive for
what you get.
All in all, I have fond memories of my stay at the Sutton- but those
memories are because of my husband! The hotel is overpriced, boring,
dated, snobby without reason and had the most stomach churning elevators
I have encountered. The Sutton really needs to update it's look and
quality of service to compare any of the other fine hotels in Vancouver. |
