Guest Review of the Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver

Very nice hotel with the greatest view. Efficient staff (mainly, except
for check-in problems), expensive breakfast and why not provide a free
bottle of water in the room, what a crowd pleaser that would be. Same
old gripe about internet charges, get real, hotel management, it is time
to give free internet access/wifi to your guests. Access to hotel is up
two escalators so you have to lug your bags up but apart from that, good
position and the view from harbour view rooms is really worth it. Connie
from Housekeeping very helpful and concerned for our comfort, thank you
Connie.

I booked a room for my fiancé and I for one night before she flew out
the next day from Vancouver. I wanted it to be a special day so I went
on Hotwire as nearly everyone I know does on last minute trips these
days. I opted for the more expensive of the two choices between 4 star
or 5 star hotels on hotwire, just to ensure that there would be great
service and no chance of any problems. I mean 4 stars are still usually
really great. Pan Pacific was the hotel we ended up with.
When we got to the desk I was excited because it was very nice in the
lobby and a great location. The first thing I heard was the guy beside
me was offered a free upgrade to the harbour side which is an amazing
view and it looked like it made his day. So I figured maybe I'd see if
we could get one too.
So the woman working looked us up and checked us in and pretty much
gives us everything before saying "Oh by the way your room has two
double beds" I'm thinking oh they'll just switch that since we're
obviously a couple. Nope apparently there are no queens or kings
available to us. Confused I asked why and she basically made us feel
like second class customers because we booked on hotwire.
Getting frustrated I assumed that she didn't have enough experience with
this type of situation and a manager could help.
The manager was even more condescending of our hotwire booking status
and again there were only double beds available to our "type" of
booking. After some discussion it became apparent that there were
actually some king bed rooms but that we would have to upgrade to it for
a $40 fee. Now I'm thinking why didn't I just get the 4 star room that
wasn't on the water because it would have the same view for half the
price and I would get to sleep beside my OWN FIANCE!
After going in circles with the manager and the first girl snickering
that she was right about us being lesser clients I paid the money and
didn't get any upgrades and spent an hour getting back into holiday
happy mindset.
I was just expecting better service from a hotel like this. And if it
really bugs you that people use hotwire to book your rooms DON'T PUT
YOUR ROOMS ON HOTWIRE. Is this what 5 start service looks like? I was
surprised.
Oh free room internet isn't available to us "hotwire" folk either.

The rooms were very nice. We had a view of the harbor and loved watching
the float planes take off and land. They can be a bit noisy early in the
morning, but we got up early anyway to see the views of the mountains
and take in some daily sight seeing. Very good location within easy
walking distance of several excellent restaurants. Also close to the bus
route so you can get around without renting a car. Very cheap bus rates.
We took the bus out to the college to see the First Nation Museum which
was fantastic. Round trip was only $4 each. We were there during the
anniversary of the Olympics so we got to see the celebrations and the
lighting of the Olympic torch. What a treat. We would highly recommend
staying here.

Stayed at the Pan Pacific Vancouver for 3 nights in early July 2011.
From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out our stay was
great. The very friendly Irish lass at the check in counter was gracious
enough to upgrade us to a harbour view room on the 17th floor and we had
an amazing view of the harbour, mountains and Stanley Park. My son
thought it was pretty cool that the cruise ships docked right next to
our hotel and we even took a walk alongside one to check it out.
The beds were super comfortable and the room was very clean and a decent
size.
The hotel is in a pretty good location near Gastown and Robson street.
There's a great food court right across the street and a starbucks
attached to the hotel.
Excellent hotel all around. |
