Hotel Reviews of the Hyatt Regency Hotel Vancouver

The location could not be better. This, plus an amazing rate from
Priceline, made this a perfect home base for our Vancouver visit. We had
a car and parked in the hotel the first few days, but soon found a
cheaper lot on Alberni (I am sure there are others, too). Getting around
by car was quite easy, but we could also walk to a lot of attractions
like Gastown and Stanley Park. We had a lovely large room, housekeeping
service was excellent -- I came back to the room to get something and
the maid was cleaning it. She checked my key to make sure it was indeed
my room and I appreciated her caution. There are numerous restaurants in
easy walking distance and a lot of high end shopping. There is a
McDonalds and Tim Horten's right there, for quick and cheap stuff. W had
a drink in the Mirage bar one night and the bartender was very helpful
and forthcoming with restaurant suggestions and shopping tips. I truly
enjoyed our stay here and would happily go back.

We put a huge amount of care into choosing our hotels. We are fussy
about cleanliness and air quality and noise and all that, but we also
really hate to spend huge amounts of money for a bed and bathtub.
After a fair amount of research, we decided that you might as well go
for the good stuff in Vancouver. Staying outside of the city center
seemed to offer no significant price advantages.
The Hyatt is steps away from Robson Street, which pleased my wife. We
had an interesting choice of restaurants within walking distance.
The room was pristine. Crisp white linens, shiny bathroom, little
refrigerator, newish TV, great view and real glass glasses for our
nightcap. The noise level (bathroom fan and air conditioner) was very
good.
The parking was weird. According to the sign in the front of the hotel,
Valet Parking would be $48.00 and self-parking would be $38.00. For $10
for ten minutes I thought I would do it myself. Because of some
confusion when entering the garage, I wound up talking to the attendant.
By paying my own, and not using the hotel system, I paid $27.00. (So
self-parking saved me $21.00.)
My one major complaint is that that the internet cost almost $17.00.
Sorry, I think internet should be like electricity and running water.
What was worse, however, is that pay system doesn't not deal with two
devices. If my wife accessed the internet on her iPad, I had to
reconnect on my computer, and vice-versa. I would say that through
twelve hours I logged on at least fifty times.
On check-out, I complained, both about paying and about the problem of
having two devices. She said that next time, we should pay separately
for both devices (so that each one has its own connection) and that they
would refund the cost of the second one on check-out. Don't take my word
for it, though. Arrange that when you check in.
We will go back. The room is comfortable, the price competitive and the
location superb.

As I planned my trip to Vancouver, I was getting confused which hotel to
chose. Ultimately decided on the Hyatt and I am not regretting it at
all. Check in was swift and I was delighted to know that we had been
upgraded to one of the bi-level suites on the 32nd floor. We had opted
for the e- standby upgrade option and that gave us an upgrade to the
Regency Club as well for half the usual price! The hotel is definitely
showing signs of its age which you notice as the elevator creaks its way
up but everything else is perfectly in order. The suite was spacious and
had a balcony too with breathtaking views. We enjoyed watching the
parade and fireworks of Canada day celebrations right from our balcony.
The Regency Club was ordinary and offerings very subpar as compared to
other hotels executive club lounges. However what makes the place stand
high above the others is the level of customer service! Each and every
staff member I encountered, from the reception to the bell boy to the
valet parking to the housekeeping ...you mention it,,,were outstanding
and exceptional in their performance. This is something I have rarely
seen in my travels around North America. You might see it is in Asia but
not in USA for sure. I was definitely unhappy to check out from my 5 day
stay and wish I could return soon to this lovely hotel with excellent
staff.

Hyatt was very clean, staff was extremely helpful and
courteous. Stayed on an upper floor (30th) and room was very quiet.
Starbucks in the lobby is very convenient for a quick cup of coffee or
for a business meeting location. For families, there is a 24 hour
McDonald's right outside the front door of the hotel (We enjoyed it too
for a quick breakfast or afternoon ice cream).
Hotel has a room on the 4th floor which contains several ice machines
and can be accessed by one's room key. Nice feature since it keeps noisy
ice machines off of other floors.
Very modern rooms with wide variety of conveniences, including in room
coffee pot, iron and ironing board, wide selection of fine toilet
articles, hair dryer, and flat screen TV. Obvious that the hotel has
been recently renovated and has a nice new fresh feeling.
Highly recommend this hotel!
Only 3 blocks from the
Vancouver
Convention Center and the water where the
Cruise Ship
come in. Only negatives, and these are minor, is that you have to
pay a fee for wireless connection. |
