Guest Review of the Westin Grand Hotel Vancouver
14 September 2011
We stayed at the Westin Grand Vancouver the night prior to our cruise with
Disney. I had requested a high floor, in a corner room to take advantage of any
views. All of our requests were met, and the room was ready early when we went
to check in the morning of our arrival.
While the room layout was a bit odd, it was more than acceptable. Having the
separate living room space, and joined bathroom access was great. It allowed
privacy for the guests staying on the sofa bed in the living room.
Concierge was helpful in recommending where to go for dinner, and where not to
go after dark. The area around the hotel was safe, and we felt very secure at
night.
It was a quick walk from the closest metro station, very doable for an able
bodied visitor.
We chose to take a cab to the cruise terminal the next day, which we arranged
through the front desk. They called upon its arrival, and assisted us with
luggage. If you are going to the cruise terminal I definitely would take a cab.
It is door to door service to the cruise terminal!

We stayed at the hotel for two nights and it was a great stay. The staff were
wonderful and very accommodating ( we had to call more them more then once
because of a lack of phonebooks in the rooms) they were always happy to help and
if you needed something were at your door within minutes. The location was
perfect you could easily walk to Robson or the Arena and there's tons of places
to eat around the hotel including the restaurant in the hotel. The only negative
i would say is they may be slightly over priced we paid 250 a night plus 30 a
day for parking and that doesn't include anything except your room no breakfast
or even vouchers for breakfast. But the location itself could probably make up
for the high price
And there are two elevators and 31 floors so sometimes you have to wait 5 or 10
minutes for an elevator

This hotel is slightly more expensive than what I spend when travelling for
pleasure. It's a wonderful hotel and a great location. Staff were very helpful
and everything went on without a glitch.

All the rooms are suites, but this seemed like an afterthought for this hotel,
not a design concept.
The bedroom is too small to navigate, and all the dressers for it are in the
living room. It's as if they just put a wall up in a space that used to be one
room. The living room has the couch and TV, and the bedroom is just a bed and
two tiny closets, and all these doors. There are so many doors that one is
always in the way of something. The bathroom door, two small closets, and the
bedroom door to the living room make the small space awkward and uncomfortable.
There are many lights in the room, and each one is on a separate power and needs
to be turned on manually. They can also be toggled manually and controlled by a
main switchc by the front door. However, there is an unlabeled light switch next
to the thermostat that for some reason is connected to the power outlets on the
work desk. Our phones didn't get charged because when we shut off all the lights
this shut off our power all night. I did mention this to the front desk and they
said that wasn't correct and would be looked into. Not while we were there...
The bathroom has a shower door. Again, a door in the way of the door to the
bedroom. The light switch is tucked too far back to be useful. The sink stopper
didn't work; it just fell instead of locking in position.
Finally, the elevator situation was annoying. There needs to be a card reader on
each side of the elevator. Plus, hotel key cards would stop working in the
readers after 2 days and we needed to get new ones. Apparently several other
guests we ran into on the elevators were having the same problem.
All in all the functionality was so distracting and made it so difficult to work
here I wouldn't stay here again. |
