Review of the Sunset Inn and Suites Vancouver

Sunset Inn offers a good value for the money with its good location,
free parking, and free continental breakfast. The rooms are spacious
with a fully stocked kitchen if you choose to cook. The hotel is within
walking distance to many restaurants, Stanley Park, Sunset beach and the
mini ferry to Granville Island. We never had to use our car which was
good because the parking area, although free, is tight and limited. We
found the staff at the front desk to be very friendly and helpful in
giving directions and restaurant suggestions.

This hotel is located in Davie Village with lots of places to eat in the
immediate vicinity and is within walking distance of all of the sights
in downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park. The room we stayed in (303) was
of generous size with a king bed and reasonable cooking facilities (we
didn't cook) and the complimentary breakfast is very adequate. All of
the staff at the front desk were excedingly helpful with advice and went
out of their way to assist us.

This hotel is a hidden gem. By that I mean that it is not what you
expect when you pull up out the front. It just looks like any other
small place with nothing to out of the ordinary to be expected. But in
fact it is a very good stay. We were returning from a 7 day cruise and
we needed a place with a laundry. This hotel was the only one we could
find that provided a laundry so we booked it not expecting too much, but
it had a laundry, so that's what we needed., To our surprise the room
was spacious, the furniture was relatively new and the whole suite was
well fitted out. There was a full kitchen, with a full size fridge,
stove, microwave and sink. The staff on the desk were very pleasant and
helpful. The hotel is situated less that 2 mins walk from Davies street,
which is a lively and varied shopping street and only about 5-10 mins
walk to Robson Street, another shopping area. We also needed to pick up
a hire car from Hertz, and again this was only about 5 Mins walk away.
If you need to go to the Downtown area, that would be 10 -15 MIns walk
away. So if you are needing a stay in Vancouver, I would recommend this
hotel for a short or a longer stay. A little noisy if you stay in a back
room, because of the hospital nearby, but it was not a bother really.

If you are into having the privacy of an apartment at your disposal as
opposed to hanging out in a hotel bed room, the Sunset Inn and Suites
will be your best bet. Located centrally around the corner from Davie @
Thurlow it offers inclusive parking, a daily paper, local calls and
high-speed internet access. Two bus lines take you downtown and back
well into the wee-hours. Groceries and dining options are plenty in the
neighbourhood. Stanley Park and Granville Island are within a walking
distance. Davie St. is great for finding your way onto any of the major
highways when leaving the West End. Most surprising: the staff. They
seem enjoying their job which creates a very kind atmosphere whenever
crossing the entrance area. Great place to be.

The staff was great and tried so hard to please so it's hard to pan this
hotel. However, it is a very old hotel (actually apartment). Although
the beds were very comfortable, all of the other furniture in the
apartment was old and shabby. Our friends had to move to another hotel
due to the musty smell.
I did pick it based on pricing at the time and it is good value. But we
have come to expect a little more modern and better location. |
