Review of the Le Soliel Hotel in Vancouver
7 October 2011
I'm a business traveler so I spend a lot of time online when I'm in my hotel
room. Many places offer free internet access with your stay so I'm unused to
paying a daily fee. So it really cheeses my biscuits when I pay a fee AND then
receive popup advertising in my browser. Every time I access a web page, a
portion of my page is filled with an advertisement by R66T who was chosen by Le
Soleil to supply their internet service. Either give me free access with ads or
charge me $8 and stay off my browser.
But you came here for a review of the hotel, right? Here we go:
As a boutique hotel, Le Soleil is lovely. Glamorous fabrics on the furniture and
draped across the windows. The marble bathroom, gold striped wall paper and the
carved sun on my door - all of it is so pretty. Even the bathroom towels have
their logo stamped into them.
My room is quiet despite having neighbours on both sides, which means I must
have nice thick walls. I get a good sleep. The windows are not quite as thick. I
face north and two or three times each evening (and once in the morning) I get
to hear some sort of street noise that reminds me of bags of glass bottles being
poured into a metal dumpster.
Clean, clean, clean. No dirty carpet, no dust on a forgotten ledge, no smudges
on the walls. I never see the cleaning staff yet my room is spotless when I
return at 5 pm.
My room is 8 steps from the elevator yet I hear no comings & goings. I have a
bathrobe, decent closet space with two fabric-covered hangers, an in-room safe,
a coffee machine by Keurig, toiletries by Aveda and a mini bar filled to the
brim with beverages. I can dip into the convenience tray in my room and be
billed for a jar of cashews, a canister of oxygen (I kid you not) or a box of
prophylactics at my whim.
When I book a wake up call the person at the front desk is friendly and prompt.
I get a smile from them when I walk past the front desk and out the door.
I'm four blocks from the harbour, three blocks from the Skytrain, two blocks
from a pharmacy/postal outlet and there's a fitness building (akin to a YMCA)
right next door.
So although the incursion of advertising on my browser infuriates me there's no
way I can give this hotel a bad review. The staff are too nice, the room is too
comfortable and the building is too well-located to do so. Thumbs-up for this
hotel and a "Very Good" rating that would have been "Excellent" if their
double-dipping tactics with internet access hadn't left me with a sour taste in
my mouth.

We spent 3 nights in this wonderful boutique hotel in BC. Just a few blocks
north of the pier and downtown. We considered the Fairmont but would have had a
typical room, not here, the room was "special". the bed was great, the service
fantastic....the staff accommodating and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel
for your stay in Vancouver. Breakfast was not included which worked for us
because we don't eat breakfast, coffee in the room was perfect. A great say in a
great hotel in a wonderful city.

Very "un-chain" like. I had a fabulous room, very clean, great size with a small
living parlor area and a very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly and
check in/out was effortless. Nice location, well within walking distance for
most amenities. I did not check out the attached restaurant as there are so many
great places for food in VanCity. I would ABSOLUTELY stay again and have already
sent others there who also had a great experience. A Definite Recommend!

Spent the week at the hotel during out stay in Vancouver. Central location (if
you like walking) in the downtown core and right on the subway line, which makes
for a quick escape from the airport. Great service from the hotel and excellent
staff that help you on your way to the sights and some things that are off the
beaten track.
The hotel room itself was pretty awesome. Very clean and had its own living
room, which I believe comes standard. Although why you would need 2 flat screens
in 200 sq ft of space is beyond me. but if you are coming with children its a
great treat.
we didn't eat at the hotel next door as we liked to find off the beaten track
cafes and markets, but it looked good and smelled excellent in the evenings. I
would definitely recommend this hotel for future travellers! |
