Shangri La Hotel Vancouver

This hotel was nothing short of perfection. In room technology, style, staff service and more. I loved this hotel and can't wait to be back. Those that don't travel often or don't truly appreciate this "little" details that mean all the world to a road warrior, might not appreciate the subtle nuances.

I have never stayed at a top notch hotel like the Shangri-La before. So I am not being snobby when I say I was disappointed. We wanted to stay at a great place for our honeymoon so paid the high price and booked this hotel. Yes, the rooms were nice but not very large. My issue is that for the price I expected more, I dont think the hotel was any better than any of the mid priced hotels. We did not have any issues, but nothing great to say either. But we loved our meal at MARKET!

I was there for a wedding and decided to pay the big ticketed price for location. Having heard wonderful things about Shangri-La hotels, I was expecting great room with amazing service. The hotel is very nice and the rooms were very clean but for double the price of other five star hotels, I was not impressed. I think we are just paying for the brand.

The Good:
- Very Clean
- Great location
- Nice sized bathroom.

The not so good:
- Check in was slow (No in room check in)
- Service was average.
- For the price they did not go the extra mile to help.

My friends and I have booked two rooms and they put one of us on separate floors and we asked if we can be moved to the same floor. I talked to the house keeper and they inform me that the room across from my room was free but upon inquiring at the front desk they wanted more money, considering we are paying close to $1000 for two rooms and we were there for a wedding (I am sure tens of thousands of income), they would not help us unless we pay additional fee ($30). They hotel value money over happy guest, it's just bad business for not offer a non-booked room to make guests happy. They lost a few repeat customer that day.

With so many other hotels near by I would stay somewhere else and get a better view.

We favour Shangri La hotels for our holidays but this was our first stay in this specific hotel. We stayed in an Executive Balcony room (1212) which was good sized, modern and well equipped –pretty much as described and pictured on their website. It is really well located for all the main tourist attractions but there are no harbour views. In all honesty the service wasn’t quite as good as we have been used to from the Shangri-La but we would still here again. Check-in/out was slow. The service at breakfast was poor –the waiters didn’t seem to know what they were doing; we had to wait ages to order and then for the food to be delivered. We did eat dinner at the Market on our the first night and the food and service was much better. The concierge service was excellent. If you want a spa treatment you need to pre-book well in advance (they could not fit me in during our two day stay). We also had dinner at the Five Sails. There was a slight wait for our table even though we had pre-booked but the delay was worth it for the views overlooking the harbour and Grouse Mountain and the service was faultless and friendly. The food was outstanding – we had the tasting menu. Vancouver is a beautiful city. Stanley Park is lovely and relaxing (go to see the Totem Poles) but it takes a lot longer to walk the full perimeter than you think – best way to do it is on a bike.

This was our second time at this specific shangri la and once again it did not disappoint. Rooms are amazingly clean, large, modern asian decor and extremely cozy. Staff was super friendly and always a pleasure to look at as very elegantly dressed. Gym is a little small but still well equipped with some cardio and weights. Pool is very small. It is on the upper end $ wise but definitely worth the money.

My family and I stayed here last week and were thoroughly impressed. Rooms are extremely well appointed, service excellent, the facilities are top notch and the location is super convenient. One particularly nice feature was that we had two adjoining rooms that were attached by closing off the end of a hallway, which provided a suite feeling, but with additional privacy and security. Also impressive that they don't try to nickel and dime you on every ancillary service (e.g., very high quality free internet, no hassle on late check out, complementary coffee in room). Most recent comparable experience was at the Peninsula in Tokyo.
