Guest Review of the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside

This hotel is at a great location just one block to the Harbour with many great
restaurants within a short walk. Our room on sixth floor (619) had a view of the
Harbour and was clean with ample space for the two of us along with a mini
fridge. The bed was very comfortable, the buffet breakfast had excellent fresh
fruit along with great service with the only drawback being the price of the
buffet was expensive. We were able to check-in early and the front desk got our
traveling friends a room next to ours (617) but oddly their room did not have a
mini fridge. I would have given this hotel a 5 star rating but the price of the
rooms are pricey.

When I went for a business trip in Vancouver last July 2011, we opted to stay
there since we wanted to make sure it's a decent hotel we were going to stay in.
The room i got was designed well but surprisingly, I had no mini bar, though I
had an ice bucket (??). Size of the room was enough and I liked the sofa, but my
room was overlooking the road and not the harbor. I checked out the room of my
colleague and she had a waaay bigger room, with a view, a veranda and a bigger
bathroom. When we checked our room bill, we were charged the same rate!! And not
just that, I stayed there for 3 days and 3 nights and each room had a total bill
of CA$700+! A very expensive for a rather average room. I found out through
another colleague that there are other hotels near the shopping street where
it's half the price with bigger
rooms. So, if I were to go on a business trip again, I'd probably consider this
hotel again, but if I were on vacation or just want value for money, I'd check
out other hotels.

We stayed at the Renaissance Harbourside for two nights until our weekly rental
became available. The room we were assigned had a balcony with a tremendous view
of the seaplanes and mountains. I imagine if we were a couple rooms to the left
or right, our view would have been partially or totally obstructed by high
rises. The interior was contemporary with extremely comfortable mattresses. The
staff was able to fit a rollaway in the room since teenage siblings aren't keen
on sharing a bed. The fitness center was impressive - quite an assortment of
equipment and quite large.

We had a great harbor view room during our short stay in Vancouver. It was
within walking distance of downtown.
PROS:
1. Wonderful view with early check in
2. Ease of navigating the city, dinner reservations
3. The bellman rapid and courteous service
4. The service from the waiter for the wonderful breakfast buffet.
CONS: None

We stayed in this property with points (15,000/ night) because any hotel in that
part of Vancouver is expensive. We are a family of 4 with kids aged 4 and 2. We
got a room with 2 doubles and a small sofa and in addition, we got a rollerway
bed delivered to our room at no extra charge. The room wasn't large, but it
wasn't small either.... bottom line, we had enough beds to accommodate everybody
comfortably and the kids enjoyed playing with the beds. The view towards the
harbour and Stanley Park is not unobstructed, but it's nice nonetheless. I did
enjoy taking a morning picture of Stanley Park framed in between two high rises.
What else is good: location. IMO, sleeping in the Coal Harbour area of Vancouver
makes a huge difference. I regard Stanley Park as one of the greatest urban
parks in the world, and probably the most beautiful. The pedestrian/ bicycle
trail that joins the Canada Place and Stanley Park has to be one of the most
pleasant walks anywhere. Another positive was the staff, very helpful.
Regarding the previous comments about Internet, parking and breakfast...
Internet is free in the lobby, so what's the issue? How many hotels of an
equivalent brand name offer Internet for free anywhere in the property? Not
many, so I thought this was a nice surprise that added value to my stay.
Parking is expensive but if you are trying to save money, keep in mind that
street parking in that area of Vancouver is super safe and free during the
night. I actually left my car in a Chinatown parking garage (EasyPark close to
Main and Keefer) for $10.50/ day during my all-Vancouver days. I picked the car
up for our day trip to the Sea-to-Sky highway. Got back around 8pm and paid for
two hours of street parking right across the hotel (there is a 2-hr limit so if
you need more than 2 hrs you have to be more inventive). Free street parking
starts at 9 or 10pm (can't remember). Bottom line, there are ways to save in
parking. |
