Hotel Review of the Holiday Inn Express Vancouver

Check in was a snap, was clean and convenient to everything, hot
breakfast served on time. A good deal of choices for breakfast. No
problems with my room. Near the fairgrounds and as well a WALMART is
nearby for you.

This was not a pleasure trip to Vancouver, my older brother had passed
away and my sister and I were out to bring his remains home to the East
Coast. We had rushed to get a flight out and had not made reservations
at a hotel before leaving. We were able to walk in and get a room
without any problem. We were at the front of the building, but the noise
was not unbearable and it was kind of neat to see the traffic and people
walking by. Comfortable and close to many little shops, drug store, park
and a fabulous Italian bakery. The staff were extremely helpful and when
we asked if we could have a frig and microwave brought up to the room,
it was delivered within the hour. The onsite laundry was extremely clean
and well kept and breakfast in the morning was a great way to start your
day off. The Press Box Pub next door was a great spot for a quick bite
to eat in the evenings. The staff were helpful in getting us cabs and
letting us know of the different options for transit. What we
appreciated most was on the day we were coming back we had been informed
that the shuttle ran to the airport at 8:00am or 10:00am unfortunately
our plane had been delayed so that neither of these times really worked
for us. We were pleasantly surprised when the driver informed us that he
could take us out at 9:00am instead if that worked for us. This was a
great spot to stay and if I get to go back to Vancouver for a vacation I
would definitely stay again.

Pros: cleaning staff do a great job and are incredibly nice. Front staff
are helpful although they can be a little hit-and-miss. Breakfast buffet
has a pretty good variety given that nothing is actually produced at the
hotel (eggs, bacon, sausages etc are of the microwave variety) -- you
can actually eat a fairly balanced and healthy breakfast. Rooms are your
typical modern standard room: beds are fine, layout is the same as
everywhere (bed, desk, flat screen tv, etc.). Hotel shuttle service is
great, but it starts too late and ends to early to be really counted
upon to avoid the $50 cab ride from the airport.
Cons: I had major problems with the keys working -- on one evening I had
to go 5 times back and forth until the lock finally worked. Also there
were a group of German (?) construction workers who loved -- LOVED -- to
smoke, and this included their non-smoking rooms whose air circulation
system ensured that everyone on the floor also smoked their cigarettes.
One night was particularly bad with them smoking, drinking, playing
music, long resounding belches. The hotel staff seemed either impotent
to do anything about it or it was a business decision to keep these guys
happy as they were long term customers. Luckily the construction workers
were either fairly stand-offish or actually nice.

Good/Average room. Pleasant atmosphere and fairly clean. Mid-week was
banned from having muffins. Apparently taking 4 muffins for a family of
3 was too much. Had to go to Starbucks to eat for the remainder of the
week. Will never be back.
