Hotel review of the Barclay Hotel in Vancouver

Room (small, no closet) was clean. WiFi free. Terrific location.
Front desk friendly. 1960s hotel in 21st Century. If you're
looking for the luxury of a
Fairmont or
Hyatt (or even
Holiday Inn), you won't find it here. But if you need a basic place to
sleep and do your work, the Barclay is just fine. And price is
just right.

Just spent two separate nights at this hotel before and after my
Alaskan Cruise, and although it was OK for an odd night I
wouldn't like to stay longer. The beds are clean and so are the
towels but the whole place is jaded and tired. The bathroom
could have done with a good scrub and I didn't chance the
shower! The air conditioning didn't work in the room and I
wouldn't like to have stayed there in the real heat of the
summer. There is no lift and I had to struggle up the flight of
stairs to reception and although my room the first night was on
the ground floor it was on the first the second night and there
is no lift. The staff were helpful and attentive and the place
was very busy but I'd not want to stay there for the whole of my
vacation. I'd recommend this hotel for an odd night in transit
but no longer

We are both in our late sixties and although we have stayed in
far better places this hotel provided us with all we needed for
our 2 night stay in Vancouver. The hotel is central and
affordable and all transport and restaurants are close by.
During the booking process via internet our queries were always
answered promptly and fully and in dealing with the staff face
to face we had the same experience. If you are looking for an
affordable place to sleep for a few nights then stay here but DO
NOT expect luxury, if you want luxury and amenities then look
somewhere else.
The continental breakfast was adequate for us
One word of warning ,the stairs can be a killer, depending on
where your room is, so if you have a lot of luggage then beware.
Their temporary luggage storage was efficient and free.

This place is ok if you just want a place to sleep. There are
absolutely no amenities. Although, It is centrally located with
restaurants and nightlife within easy walking distance. If you
are in any way shape or form disabled be warned, there are no
elevators and there is no wheel chair access into the lobby.

The first night we
were subjected to 3 Canadian girls arguing violently in the
hallway until 3am - the hotel staff did not call the police as
they repeatedly threatened that they would. Room was old and
basic (which was expected of the price) but after a day, we
notice blood stains on the sheets and bites around our ankles.
The ceilings were also really thin and we could hear everything
happening above us. Would NOT recommend.
